Twister!

What an interesting way to start a Wednesday!

I was in bed all nice and warm and I noticed the lightning and heard the thunder at around 3 am. I knew the storm was rolling through this morning and was as ready as one can be, I suppose.

At about 3:45 the tornado sirens went off so I got up and looked out the window and all was fairly calm except for the rain and occasional thunder so I worried...that calm before the storm thing has always rung true from my perspective!

At about 4:10 or so all hell broke loose and my little rental house started to do the Hokey Pokey! I heard the requisite freight train and knew I was in the mix though I'd have rather been elsewhere! Since I don't have any place inside my house (think small double wide modular) to go to like a basement I did the next best thing and cowered under the bed!

What seemed like an eternity was over in less than 15 seconds but in those few seconds a fair amount of damage was incurred all around me! Though power was out all around there was more than enough light from the lightning that I could tell that a nearby tree came apart and something hit the house at the far end.

Since I work for a telecom company I decided I needed to come to work and ensure I have enough capacity for all the 911 calls that were bound to come and, they did! So far I have counted six ambulance trips by the two crews we have in town so, prayers for the injured.

Me, I'm okay. I just cleaned up my underwear and called it good. Later on I'll head back over and assess the damage and see what I need to do next.

Oh, I almost forgot...the Wrangler is unharmed!

More to follow.

Mac

Wow!!! That sux! I'm glad you're ok. And yes, hope they're not badly injured. Also, I wouldve changed underwear instead of just cleaning them lol jk

Glad your jeep was safe too.

Be safe.

Glad you're ok..... been through the same myself, but here in VA we don't have the sirens so it was a bit more of a surprise.

So far I have heard of a couple of fatalities but things around here are quite hectic so that may or may not be accurate.

Since my last post the ambulance population has increased from neighboring towns and the ambulance building here in town was wiped out and all schools are closed.

The hospital up the street from me was hit pretty hard and the small strip mall next to the Wal-Mart is pretty well gone as is the church across the highway.

From what I can see out my office window they have blocked the road off leading to the hospital and the surrounding neighborhood and have restricted access to hospital employees and residents only so it may be a while before I head over to see what damage there is to my place.

I just saw a fire/rescue crew and a couple more police cars heading that way so we're being taken care of for sure!

Wow! Glad you and your Jeep are ok. I'm in central Ohio and 1 county south of me is/was under a Tornado watch. Haven't really been paying much attention to the news lately.

Eesh... that sound of a tornado is without a doubt the eeriest thing I've ever experienced in my life. I always take weather alerts seriously now.

Tornado warnings all over Kentucky right now, from Western to Central KY.

I've been in a few so far in my life. One was pretty much a direct hit. It's chaotic and a bit of a rush (I'd love to be a storm chaser), but the destruction of life and property is a terrible thing.

So, I guess in my haste to leave the house this morning I missed something! Apparently the Wrangler did get hit but I never noticed it because I never looked to my right!

My sister lives in Dayton and she said it wasn't that bad there. I like storms but not the high winds.

Here are a few shots I took earlier while riding along US 45. Last I heard was ten dead just here in Harrisburg.

More later, heading home now.

Seeing the devastation of the commercial buildings really doesn't touch the person like seeing someone's home being hit. The next few pictures were all taken within one block of my apartment.

Damage to my place is minimal.

A tree snapped and, according to one neighbor, flew across my yard and hit the power line pulling the weather head down and shearing the meter off the wall.

If you look at the right hand side you can see the bed where the owner's were before it hit. They are okay.
