I have only seen the first two episodes. I liked what I saw though! I don't have cable or satellite or anything so I can't keep up with my favourite shows any more...

My heritage is Viking so I am interested in learning about my ancestors and such. After all, the show is 100% historically accurate right?

The show producer said a documentary about Vikings would appeal to hundreds, so, some liberties were needed to make it appeal to millions.

So, you can nitpick that the Church they raided was a style from a different time period, but that kind of nitpicking can ruin any show.

One neat fact about Vikings (not from the show) is that they would burn piles of moss which were high in Iron content. The little pile of iron left after burning the moss was used to make their weapons. It was an easy source of iron for them.

That's actually pretty cool and very efficient on their part. Ya! Go ancestors! Minus the rape and pillaging...

Just finished first season. Brutal people. Kind of gives you food for thought for the God/Jesus thread.

Ragnar's son is in a tough spot. Very sad split up of a previously happy family. Ragnar is acting the part of a Viking pig very well. LOL

Great script writing and acting. All around quality show with good Viking battle action too.

I agree.

Made me so mad last season when he and Aslaug got together. And yes, historically that's what really happened; but, to me, it was nice seeing a happy/functional (somewhat) family, haha. But I also really like Lagertha; she endured a lot of pain last season, I hated to see her go through more, so I'm sure that has something to do with my dislike of the current situation.

Great show. Bought the first season to get caught up. Any show about surviving during ruff times always interest me.

New Episode Tonight!

Princess Aslaug is the daughter of Siegfried & Brunhilde. That's crazy! Have y'all seen the movie Django to be familiar with Brunhilde or were otherwise privy? Perhaps you saw the Bugs Bunny episode where Bugs played the part of Brunhilde?

Aslaug's Parent's?

Darn, I was just reading about Aslaug on wikipedia and found out that Ragnar Lothbrok isn't made up by the History Channel, but they're actually following the thirteenth-century Saga of Ragnar Lodbrok, so I ended up reading "spoilers".

Don't do it! ...ie don't read spoilers on wiki LOL

Definitely don't intend to.

I didn't like aslaug last season. Lagertha is hot. They seem to have spruced aslaug up a lil more this season tho.

I too was impressed to find that ragnar was real. Even b4 that i was like....sign me up, ill b a pagan!!! Something about the brotherhood and loyalism they portray. Turns out that pagan means "country dweller" in Latin, i was born a pagan.

So, it jumped ahead 4 years. Reading the "spoilers" yesterday helped me pick up a few things I wouldn`t have noticed otherwise. Aslaug's first son's name is Ivan the boneless and was born weak. You can see the boy is on the thin and frail side. In scene from next week you see the new baby has a serpent eye. That's another thing I read from about Aslaug yesterday. Also, from reading the spoilers, I know why there are "crows" seen all time.

That was some storm. They ended up in Wessex by accident! That was a smidge off course. LOL

I should look it up. Im not even sure where that is. I didn't know that about the frail son. I have seen flashes of what i assume is Bjorn grown up. Seer was laughin about Bjorn out doing ragnar. The misfortunes of his sons with aslaug was pointed to in first season, lagertha went to seer and heard that ragnar was in trouble in a magical sense.

except for the part were the Christian missionaries would torture one family member to death to convert the rest of the family. One of the more horrific methods was pouring boiling oil into a large metal pot placed on the victim's belly.

So 4 years has passed, and I keep thinking Ragnar will be seeing Bjorn again very soon (he'd be 16 now, right?). Previews for this week's episode show Lagertha (so happy she's back, love her) so perhaps we'll see Bjorn too?

So much drama in this show, haha. My husband always looks at me and shakes his head and says "your people" (my mom is from Norway, and I grew up visiting there every year).

Another great episode. They shouldn't have broken the deal with that other Earle Jarl and now Ragnar's homestead is sacked. I think Bjorn will want to return to Ragnar soon. Also, I can do without anymore of King Ecbert's bath scenes. LOL

This show started out with so much potential. It seems to have lost something.
It's still a good show but it seems kinda tame so far this season.

Here's an artistic promo video I like...
Vikings Season 2 - Teaser 2 - YouTube

Also, remember when Floki put the Saint's bone hand on the Viking Priest. I noticed in this video, look at the priest's hand and then the King's, with the deer, hand.

I really like the Glory and Gore song in that promo video...

The lyrics: Now we're in the ring, And we're coming for blood, You could try and take us, But we're the gladiators... God knows we like archaic kind of fun, the old way... Glory and gore go hand in hand, that's why we're making headlines, you could try and take us, but victory is contagious

Great episode tonight! Bjorn is back with Ragnar is my favorite part. I wonder how Talgbert found them in Wessex? Maybe they landed somewhere else and heard rumors of Northmen in Wessex had spread across the land.

I've got some Viking stuff on order from Amazon.

a Valknut ring...

the triple horn of Odin...

Thor's pendant...

Has anyone ever had mead? It is fermented from honey and is deliscious. I went and got some since I knew it was the Viking's drink.

Mead is older than wine or any other fermented drink. Mead was first and is the "drink of kings". In the Bible, it is shekar, translated to strong drink. In northern Europe, every town had a mead-hall where the community met and had feasts. The poem Beowulf mentions mead and mead-halls 20 times. In Norse mythology, mead is the favorite drink of Odin. Mead was also very popular in ancient greece and is in the Iliad. Although mead is more historically significant and better, beer became more popular recently in the last few hundred years, because it was cheaper to mass produce beer. Mead is recently making a comeback though with hundreds of new mead producers starting up.

The big hall where the earle sits is called the mead-hall. Floki should have mead inside his drinking horn...

Go try some mead and drink like a Viking!

That was my favorite part too; and since Lagertha is my fave, I hope she sticks around for good. She and Ragnar make a great team, which will be even more awesome with Bjorn.

Nice stuff!

Yes, it's very sweet; I've had good and bad. They always have it at the renaissance festivals here every year.

It's naturally on the sweet side since honey is the main ingrediant, but they also make "dry mead" to make it less sweet and many other variations of mead with fruit and spices.

I got a couple different brands to see which one I like best. The mead I've tried so far is very good and so I plan to keep it in stock at the house.

I've also got a nice pewter tankard to drink it out of, but I may have to get the Viking drinking horn next.
