Wal mart strikes again.

Daughter in law took her car to walmart today. After a pre oil change check(?)they discovered her motor was a qt low.Ok.Do an oil change and get this, they charged her for a full qt that she was low on before the oil change, charged her 10.50 for an oil filter then charged her for another 5 qts of oil.Late model olds with a v6.It holds 4 qts,I did this for her a while back. She had them test her battery and it was ok.Now it sits there infront of her house-click click click won't start.Yeah they tried to sell her tires.6 qts of oil,oil filter and test battery for 60$.The local stealership wanted 80$ for a pre winter check and oil change!Unreal.

I'd ask for an oil change at Burger King before Walmart.
But, I am lucky enough to have a locally owned quick-lube place nearby, that is manned by a team of off-roading rednecks
I took my Jeep there the day I bought it, and they fixed a few leaks for free!

I'd rather go without an oil change than trust Walmart.

No doubt. She is too far away from me to go do an oil change for her,but you'd think there would be someone there who does honest quality work.Ft. Dodge is Iowa's butthole.Every place she's taken this car has screwed her over. One guy put on a set of wipers and instead of releasing the tab lock,he used a claw hammer to pull the wiper arm off.No sh**.Course that wiper works once in a while now.

Being a woman who is at the mercy of mechanics from time to time I know the frustration of taking your vehicle in for service. It never fails that they will try to sell me something that I don't need or charge me for something that they didn't do. I'm fortunate to have found both Jeep and BMW mechanics that I can trust. Most mechanics just take it for granted that we (women) are mechanically brain dead and can be taken advantage of.

I do not trust my "Pride-N-Joy" in any ones hands! No one touches "Eugene" without me right there watching them! I do 99% of needed service/mech work myself. I don't trust any one! Too many horror stories about drain plugs left out, replacing good parts, being charged for services not rendered. Not me, I'll do it myself, thank you very much.

Has you D-I-L asked around work or friends for that mechanic everyone seems to use who is phenominal? I'm in southern Iowa and know there are quite a few around here. Did she ask to speak to the manager about the problem? I would have refused to pay for the extra quart of oil if nothing else. Ladies...all the more reason to know at least the basics for our vehicles! Bet there's an adult education class for this.

Every place she has taken her car has given her an exploded estimate. One shop told her the fuel pump was weak and wanted over 800 bucks to change it out for her.We went to my grandaughters 1st birthday and I changed out her plugs in a restrauant parking lot.123000 miles on original plugs. That took care of the pump issue.

One father did a nice little test at our shop. He sent his daughter in with a big list of things and said that another shop told her that she needed all these repairs, she came to us for a second opinion. Looked over the car, it was in great shape, didn't need anything. Called him up and told him. He came down, told us that it was a test to see how honest we were, and shook our hands. He said he knew he could trust us with his daughter's car now.

I thought it was really neat, and a good idea. Not all of us are criminals people! Those people give us honest folk a bad rep.

They are pretty inexpensive unless you want a power one.

I'm lucky enuff that one of my customers is a great guy and if we supply our own fluids and filters he wont charge for oil changes, as long as his shops not busy that is.

There is one lube shop in town in Long Beach that I trust cause they have been in busy before I was born so they are ok in my book. They do a good job never had a problem with them. I havent had the jeep long enough to do a oil change on it myself. There is also a mechanic shop in town that I trust to work on my jeep. Again the shop has been open a long time know the guy who owns it just about all of there mechanics are certified. They havent done me wrong before they even wash the cars if they get dirty in the shop. But I would never take my jeep to wally world other than to buy stuff.

Bad news it is. People just don't have the morals they use too.
It really is a shame she was taken advantage of by the technicians.

Fort Dodge is Iowa's butthole? That's funny! I have family there, but haven't visited since I was in high school (20 years).

I used to work for Silgan Container in Fort Dodge. I lived north east near a little town called Vincent. Fort Dodge is the butthole of Iowa. Charles City and Marshalltown distant taint.

It's almost as cheap to have your oil changed at a oil change place if you consider your time but I will never have someone do it for me. If I do it myself I know it's done right. I can honestly say I've never paid for any auto repairs. I am fortunate to always have a shop to do it and the ability to do it. Some do not and then have to trust the people doing the work.
