water + cell phone

alright, i had my cell phone in my swimsuit pocket and I forgot about it. I went swimming for about 5-10 minutes in shallow water and the hot tub. I realized the phone was in my pocket and now its not turning on. I'm guessing its a battery problem? what should i do? The screen had a shade of white, now i think its back to normal color. I tried blow drying it for 10 minutes, did nothing, still won't turn on. My buddy told me to freeze the battery for 24 hours, so i'm doing that right now.

another thing is, its an old phone (2 years old) and they dont make it anymore. so i cant just go into the store and get a battery. Also, my plan expires in oct. and I'm getting a new plan (usually comes with a free phone). so what should I do?

You need a new phone - take it to one of the local stores that your provider has and buy another cheapey. They usually have some for under $50... just tell them you need a replacment untill October when you'll buy a better one.

water + cellphone = broken. Unless it's ruggedized, I don't see how your phone can take a swim and survive. By the way, this is also the case with a bucket of paint. Don't ask.

Mine went in the tub while giving the boys a bath. I immediately pulled the battery and let it dry for a couple of days. Still junk. Buy a new one. Mine was only in the water for a second, I couldn't believe water had time to get inside. Yours was under for a while.

I dropped mine in a glass of iced tea. Died instantly. I didn't want to deal with Sprint's sorry ass so I got one my mother had andd activated it. I checked the old one the other day (after a couple months dead) and it fired right up. Maybe I can find a sucker to buy it. :evil2:

Just check ebay for a cheap phone from your carrier. They are a dime a dozen.

My sister's phone took a swim in the ocean and fell from a 4th floor balcony onto a car. The next day it worked just fine. That doesn't help much but I always think its a funny story. (in case anyone was wondering the phone was made by Siemens)

Also, freezing batteries is actually bad for them. Its a myth that putting batteries in the freezer will help them.

thanks guys
yeah I was thinking about Ebay, but my brother ordered a used phone off ebay from kentucky and he had a lot of problems trying to get it to work to his number and everything (took him over 2 weeks to get everything sorted out)
i talked to my phone service, they said they have "go" phones and they are about $30, and they go onto ur bill (i already have an account), so i'll go with one of those
thanks guys!

Most cellphones if you open them up and take out the battery will have a little plastic white circle. If its a different color then it usually means its board is fried. Many experiences with wet cellphones. Infact Odhinn fried my razr with a starbucks doubleshot last time. >.<

everyone is wrong. i dropped my phone into a 2000 galloin water tank, and it stayed submerged for 30 minutes until i could fish it out. i took it home, took it all apart and let it sit overnight. then put it on the charger for 24 hours. it works good as new. the camera still works, internet, all that. take it apart and give it a shot.

Don't give up on the phone yet. Mine went through the washing machine and worked again after it dried for a few days. If you don't need the phone urgently I would say wait about a week and if it doesn't work by then get a new one. Electronics are weird like that... I once spilled a drink on my new laptop and it didn't work for over a month... but I am typing on it now with no problems.

Best of luck!

my co worker's dog peed on his phone, quit working for about a week. During that time he took it apart, dried it out, recharged it, took it apart again, dried it out some more. Parts of it worked at different times, but not everything all at once. Then it magically started working again. Then it fell out of his pocket while he was watering his lawn, sprayed water right on it because he didn't notice it at first. Still working now. Ya never know.

If you put it in the micro you will get a really cool fireworks display. Metal and mircos don't play well with each other.

The insurance on them usually will not cover water damage. Just run it over with your car and then take it in.

yeah, i accidently found out about the microwave fireworks with my metal spoon (it was really cool haha)

well i put everything back together on my phone, and put in on the charger. I havent tried turning it on in the last 24 hours. I'll take it off the charger late tonight or early tommorow morning and see what happens. But the phone says its charging.
oh and I also found out my SIM card is ok, I still have everything on it (guess they are waterproof!)

If the SIM is ok and the company your with uses prepaid you can go and buy a cheap prepaid phone from wal mart put your sim in it and use that until your plan renews and you get your new phone. Also there is a company called saberpoint.com in new york that sells unlocked cell phones I purchsed one thrugh them about a year ago cause it seeme like every phone I got from my provider was junk. But the prepaid thing works my buddy is doing it right now

My son took my wifes phone after she fell asleep and through it into the bathtub full of his bath water. It was in there for at least 15 mintutes and it still worked when she found it. I pulled it apart and blew the water out of it just to be safe but it never wven turned off or discolored. I was pretty surprised to be honest. I guess you're in a different predicament though.
