WF Title Banner

Gotta say, I'm liking the new banner at the top of the page, but one thing bothers me...

WHERES THE YJ?????

This is sort of a temporary banner until we get a few things organized. In the future we are going to have contests for members to submit their panorama shots to use in the header.

I like it very much, and the contest sounds like a cool idea!

Hilldweller, sweet shot. You have the gist of what we are going to be looking for but it has to be even wider and less tall. Following are some examples of what I mean and how e can crop these out of regular photos.

The aspect ratio is going to have to be 8:1. This means the image needs to be 8 times as wide as it is tall. You can see in the attached image how this works since it it's about 800 pixels wide, the yellow lines show what a 100 pixel tall crop would look like.

Here you can see the image if cropped to work as a header:

Name:	example.jpg
Views:	39
Size:	20.5 KB
ID:	16140

Since the logo is on the left of the header, we don't want to cover up the best part of the shot. In this example I flipped the image horizontally to show how this works and where we need space for the logo. The problem is the cars are on the wrong side of the road and the "Jeep" logo on the hood is backwards!

That banner looks awesome! That should be the temporary one.

Is it switching back and forth between color and B&W though? I was on when it got turned on at home and it was color and it's color again at home. At work, it's B&W.

Same browser, different computer.

Larry,

It's probably caching. Press F5 to force your browser to pull the most recent (black and white).

In the future they will be in color (out contests).

I'll try to do a Wrangler-oriented panarama next weekend when I'm wheeling; I should have a pretty huge group to model...

How do us mere mortals make a panoramic photo like that?

Oh yeah thanks, I forgot my long-ago downloaded copy of Gimp would do that. It also appears my wife's new Nikon camera can do that internally too. I'll have to try that out the next time she lets me touch it (not very often ).

I put up one photo to show everyone what it looks like live on the site.

What we need now is someone to help us manage the process. Here's what we are looking for:
- encourage members to submit new photos
- assist members with cropping (they can email you originals if needed)
- setup a vote each month allowing member to vote on their favorite

If you are willing to help out (and good with photo cropping) please post here.

Mr Clifford, that's an awesome shot. It might be the perfect header!

We are going to start a monthly contest, make sure and enter that in the first vote. I'd love to see that as the header. Do you also have the color version?
