What Famous People have you met?

This is way off topic, but Saturday I fulfilled a boyhood dream by meeting my all time favorite athlete Dale Murphy in Birmingham. I was like an 8 year old kid, it was awesome.

What famous people have y'all met? Pics if you got 'em.

I met the whole Yankees team of 06. Even though I'm a Red Sox fan, they were very cool. My best friends dad is head of security at Logan and he got us in their private teminal.
Charlie Moore is a family friend.

Let's see...I have eaten lunch with Rajon Rondo, Kendrick Perkins and Tony Allen. A bunch of random country artists (My dad owns a bunch of radio stations), I sat next to the Dropkick Murphys at Fenway Park, Kevin Pearce, and I'm sure there are others I can't think of at the moment..

The most unusual celebrity I ever met was the guy who played Barney and we ended up singing the Please and Thank You song together (even though he doesn't actually do Barney's voice). Other then that, through work I've been fortunate enough (or not) to meet a number of celebrities and even have had the chance to party with some at a few Hollywood clubs, which is a very odd place for a midwestern guy to end up in. It is a completely different world.

I work at Staples Center so I have seen and meet a lot of "Famous people" but my favorite was when during half time during one of the recent finals games and I had to take a leak. After that I went to wash my hands at the sink but there were several douche bags stranding around talking blocking the sinks, so I politely gave one of them and elbow nudge to get into the sinks, he said excuse me and when I looked up it was Sylvester Stallone.

Well, at the moment the only celebrities that I recall who have met me are Joe Cocker at the Frankfort Airport, and Larry Bird at the horse races. Corbin Bernsen is hubby's second or third cousin, and hubby has stayed with Corbin's mother, Jeannie Cooper a time or two while in LA on business, and hung out with the whole family.

WTG on meeting Dale Murphy! I remember well his playing days in Atlanta. One great player and super guy.

My most memorable meeting was actually a chance encounter with one of my most admired people. I was attending a conference in Dallas and was presented tickets to a party (Wesinghouse LRA) at Texas Stadium. The party started out at the Stadium Club, so I had the cab driver let me out at the main entrance to the stadium so I wandered in like I owned the place.....past the stadium offices, and into a waiting glitzy elevator. Just as the door was closing, a gentleman caught the door and hurried in. The door closed and there I was face to face with Roger Staubach! I was shocked! He spoke first as I was reduced to being a bumbling idiot. He sensed that, set his armload of footballs down, shook my hand and asked me if I was going to the party. When I said I was, he said he was going to be a speaker at the party. (Turned out he was the keynote speaker and gave one of the best talks I've ever heard.) Later, the party moved down to the field and Roger threw us some balls. He acknowledged down there our earlier elevator ride. Then the party moved to the Cowboys locker room and Roger showed me where his locker had been previously. I was in football heaven! Sad to say I didn't get any pictures from the encounter but it was something I'll never forget.

My wife and I spoke briefly with Tom and Alicia Landry at Rosies Tamale House outside Austin.....it was the off season before his last season with the Cowboys. Chance encounter, no pics dammit!

My daughter was getting autographs at the Cowboys training camp in Austin the year after Jerry Jones' edition of the Cowboys won their first Super Bowl. I was with my daughter chaperoning. Jerry and Drew Pearson were making the crowd. He had just that day taken possesion of his Super Bowl ring from the previous January....I knew this from listening to the radio coverage. Sure enough, he had the ring on. I asked him about the ring and with a big smile said "This is y'alls ring". He took it off his finger and let me hold it.....briefly!

Other notable footballers I have met are Bum Phillips, Earl Campbell, Toni Fritsch, Rob Carpenter, Dan Pastorini....all when they were with the Oilers.

When I was a kid I met Fess Parker (played Davy Crockett) at a rodeo he performed at.

I was headed to work one day and stopped at a convenience store in a resort near a golf course. Steve Martin was standing in line in front of me.....got his autograph. As I was walking out, there was Bernadette Peters sitting in his golf cart! Somebody was talking to her so I went on.

I met Darrel Royal at the same restaurant above that we talked with Tom Landry at.

My wife and I were eating breakfast in the Bluebonnet Cafe in Marble Falls, Texas (our home town) and Willie Nelson and some of his family came in and set down right near us. My wife wanted his autograph....I told her she shouldn't bother him while he's eating. She did anyway. So there we were standing at his table while he was scarfing down his eggs and talking.....he didn't mind a bit!

My 3rd cousin was a 2nd string Linebacker for the Raiders (then later Minnesota, then retiring from Greenbay). His name is Rob Holmberg, I met him 2 times.

I patted Ricky Charmichael and Bubba Stewart on the shoulder during an MX national when they were going to the podium if that counts at all....

I haven't met too many.

Ron Jeremy back when I was like 21. in high school and college I used to DJ raves and warehouse parties. there was a foam party I spun records at with 2 Live Crew and Ron Jeremy was a VIP guest

um...I met a lot of the Steelers from working at the Pittsburgh airport, and other football players. Big Ben, Ward, Eli Manning, The Bus, Tom Brady, LT, etc. was more of a quick handshake than a REAL meet you type of thing though.

I met some golfer, and a soap actress many years ago but I don't remember their names

The chance encounters are pretty funny, and I think tell you the most about the celebrity. I literally bumped into Bill Murray while they were filming Ground Hog Day near my house and he was pretty friendly. He was on his way to the shoot, so I didn't ask for any autographs or anything. When I was a teenager in the late 80s we lived in Boston and were visiting LA. It just happened that the Celtics were staying at the same hotel and they were waiting for their bus at the same time and place that we were waiting for the valet to bring our car and I was standing behind them. Robert Parish took a step back and accidentally stepped on my foot. He was very apologetic and nice about it. So nice in fact that I didn't have the heart to tell him I was a Laker's fan.

Long story, but here's the short of it:

My buddy and I got a call from his cousin Monty Powell (songwriting | Monty Powell) who writes/produces in Nashville. He was then traveling with Chris Cagle co-writing music while he was on the "Brooks and Dunn Neon Circus and Wild West Show" tour. The tour provided the buses and they all looked the same. We came back from lunch and got on the wrong bus and I saw Dwight without his hat on.. then turned around scared to death and walked away.

He lived in my wife's hometown (Naples, FL) while he raised his kids. A buddy I used to work with down there wired his house for surround sound and he said when you go upstairs there's a very awkward and out of place mural of him playing basketball painted on the wall.. just out in the house.. and he said the maid had them take their shoes off even though they got out of the van and walked to the door on the pavement.. strange.

The dive resort I used to work at in Key Largo got a phone call from Tony Stewart's agent about doing a private dive class. By rights, as head instructor, I got first dibs on all private classes. The owner asked me if I wanted to do Tony's basic open-water certification, but I'd never even heard of him (I hate Nascar), so I said no and to let someone else do his cert. When one of the other instructors found out about it, she just about came apart. She was a HUGE NASCAR fan, so I let her do it. Tony was at our resort for a week that first time, and he goes to Key Largo every year and stays with Anne and Darryl (the instructor and her husband). He's actually a really nice guy, even though he's a NASCAR driver.

Oh, and I also met Tim Allen when he came to Key Largo to dive. Both Tony and Tim are genuinely nice guys.

I met (just barely) Will Smith and saw Martin Lawrence when most of Miami was blocked off for the filming of Bad Boys 2. They were walking down Ocean Drive in South Beach with their entourage one night while I was there hanging out with friends. Will said "What's up dog?" as we passed. All I could say was "Hey man." I felt like an idiot. Oh well, we made eye contact and said hellos, so that's gotta count as meeting.

Almost forgot. I went to the Jay Leno show in 2006. It was a military appreciation night. It was all military in the audience, Army, Navy, Airforce, Coast Guard, and the other guys.........oh yeah, the Marines. Evangeline Lily from the show LOST was on the show, same with The Pussycat Dolls. We all got to eat dinner there and meet everyone. The Pussycat Dolls were nasty, except for the dark-haired singer.....she was pretty cute. Evangeline Lily was a knock-out.....we were all in love. I swore I'd never wash the hand that shook her and Jay Leno's hands. Didn't last very long, but it was really cool. Jay Leno is a real down-to-earth guy who genuinely respects what the military does.

Also went to The David Spade Show, once again as a military appreciation night. Bunch of BS, if you ask me. He wouldn't shake hands with ANY military personnel, and told us if we took any pictures of him, he'd have our camera confiscated and have us thrown out of the building. Jackass, for sure.
