Who decides this stuff ???

It wasn't that long ago when all the auto manufacturers recommended changing your engine oil every 3,000 miles. Now, it has suddenly changed to every 7,000 miles.

The one that is truely disturbing I just heard yesterday. U.S. Preventive Services Task Force ,who ever they are, have decided that women don't need to get mammograms until they are 50. I have personnally known three women who have passed away from complications of breast cancer. Two of them were in their 40's. I don't get it. How can this be making somebody money ?

I don't know the basis behind this, only saw a short clip of the breast exam thing on the news last night, but my first thought was that this is a in insight to and warning against government run health care.

(sorry for long sentence)

I think the oil change difference is due to increased techonlogy effecting the longevity of motor oil.

I think there's someone here who has "Know nothing, speak on everything" in their sig - yeah, that applies to me as well.

The conspiracy theory I heard was it's a new way of getting clunkers off the road. The oil change thing I mean.

I've alway done mine at 6000 to 7000 anyway, never had a problem. As to the boob issue, my wife says she doesn't mind going every two years instead of one, said it hurts like hell. Wonder if it will hurt this guys business:

Motors have much tighter/better tolerances than they did in the past, so with better technology in oil as well, it doesn't need changed as often.
Same reason they're making better fuel economy.... better technology.

My take on the boob thing, IDFK, I'm a guy.
