I don't know the basis behind this, only saw a short clip of the breast exam thing on the news last night, but my first thought was that this is a in insight to and warning against government run health care.
(sorry for long sentence)
I think the oil change difference is due to increased techonlogy effecting the longevity of motor oil.
I think there's someone here who has "Know nothing, speak on everything" in their sig - yeah, that applies to me as well.

I've alway done mine at 6000 to 7000 anyway, never had a problem. As to the boob issue, my wife says she doesn't mind going every two years instead of one, said it hurts like hell. Wonder if it will hurt this guys business: |

my 02 gets changed every 4 or 5 thou
jeep only did one oil change in the year i owned it only 2000 miles

Motors have much tighter/better tolerances than they did in the past, so with better technology in oil as well, it doesn't need changed as often.
Same reason they're making better fuel economy.... better technology.
