As far as the political stuff.
I've always been a firm believer in our national government and gladly label myself an American Citizen. Some things are a bit outdated, but its not really the system that is at fault. Its the people running the system. I agree with Tiny on the group vote. I feel voting a straight ticket simply because thats what you or your family has done in the past is not very intelligent. We are a free nation but in order to stay free the people must stay in control. If Majority does not rule and a minor elite controls what is done then we are in trouble. The greatest part of what we have is we can discuss things like this without disappearing from the face of the Earth.

The boiling frog metaphor always comes to mind when I talk about this.

I truly didn't mean to open up a hornets nest with this

You need to move. I get the feeling that you and Streisand don't vote the same card anyway.

I'm not fond of this state, no, or it's policies and attitudes. In fact, I can't stand the "I'm the center of the universe" attitude the everyone including the children out here reek of. I find it distasteful to say the least. But there are a lot of great people here, too.

That was basically my only point. Group think is how despots end up in power. A lull in bad times and people start to move with the herd. It's a bad thing.

You didn't get run over Odhinn. We wouldn't do that. I like the frog thing by the way, weird phenomenon and very poiniant.

I really strongly disagree with yall on this one. I think we would ruin this country in short order by using a system like yall suggest. The thought of it is frightening to me and it should be to yall as well. I know where yall are coming from, but if you really look at the big picture, I'm sure you would realize the need for it to be the way it is.

As I stated earlier, I was only speaking on a presidential election. The states need equal representation, but when voting in the leader of this country, we all deserve an equal vote in the choice.

If that were true, we would be in a serious situation right now. What do you think would have happened after Sept 11 with Gore at the helm. We would basically have been doomed. That situation proves the point for me.

Don't get me wrong. I think Gore is a funny guy when I see him on all the late night shows. We would have had a repweat of Sept 11 in some fashiopn by now if Gore had been elected.

You never know how a man at the helm of the ship will react. You can't say what he would have done, you can't say what he wouldn't have done or whether the choices would have helped or harmed or placed us squarely where we are at this moment.

Any opinions or statements Gore's made after the fact are looking back and having more information than Bush had at the moment he had to make choices. No one will ever know how Gore would have reacted at the time.

yay Tiny

exactly you are just saying that becasue you did not like him, but no one knows how he would have reacted and bluntly he probably would have done a better job or at least just as well. Bush has us in major debt, losing thousands of soldiers and there is not end in sight

i will quote a bumper sticker i saw around here "Iraq is Arabic for Vietnam"
anyways this is why everyone's vote should count equally we all have our differnet views and they should not matter more or less depending on which state we live in, we should all be allowed to vote for our president with equal representation.

Now maybe it is good for the congrssional branch to have equal votes from each state, but not for the president.

and not trying to make fun of you, but your use of yall made me laugh and detracts from you seeming like you are educated and know what you are talking about, I am only saying this becasue i have no way of knowing what you are like accept for the way you write. I have no intentions of makin' fun of you

Whatever. I know that yall don't have your own dialect where you are from. You speak like I expect someone from up there to speak. Please, feel free to ignore my post and not to respond to me. I'll not worry about you from this point on. Whether you intend to insult or not, you do.

I don't think it has anything at all to do with whether or not one likes or dislikes Gore. I kind of thought he was a tool when he was running for president. But I know how difficult it must be to have to whore yourself like they do to get elected and have a thousand people telling you what you should and shouldn't do. My god, put your finder up your nose or scratch your butt and it's on the front page of every paper in the country. We're voyars.

It's easy to look back and say if and maybe. We're where we are now and we need to look ahead. Looking behind serves little.

And I use y'all all the time, kansas grown.

not to get off topic but I think I will defend Amerijeep on this one, Yall is a term used all over here in the south by even my college professors. Just like I use to use "You guys" in Minnesota. He is very educated from what I have seen and just disagrees with us on this thread.

I always have said to get that high enough in politics to become president, one needs to be somewhat corrupt.

I don't want to jump on you, because hell, I wasn't sure what this last bit was directed at, but when one mentions another person's writing as a reference point for their intelligence, once should make sure that their writing is free from misspellings, punctuation errors, and captialization errors.

Sometimes, but what actually attracted me to Odhinn was the fact that he was a yankee and he talked like one too! I think I've countrified him though.

I had a heavy Minnesota accent when I moved here. Many people I worked with thought I was Canadian. Now I use Yall:, and have tasted truly exquisite southern cooking.

I kinda feel sorry for them. I really believe they start out with the best intentions and along the way they lose sight of why they went into public service to begin with.

Ok I litterally just typed about 6 pages, venting about politics and the stupid spell checker just erased it all.

I will say this instead of typing everything all over. I sit pretty split on politics. Sometimes I agree with the democrats, sometimes I agree with the republicans, and I think most people are the same way. I dont think anyway can really so that they are ALWAYS against the left, and are ALWAYS for the right and vice versa. I believe politics now-a-days are way too corrupt, and the government has too much control on what goes on. I think most Americans have given up their civil right to keep our government, both local and federal, in check. I believe most Americans vote with their emotions (if they even vote at all) and not by a decision reached through research. Most do not even care what happends after they vote. American society has given up on itself, and has succumbed to a "Just let the government deal with it" kind of attitude. Atleast that is the way it is here in Maryland. I believe entirely too much money is wasted on abseloutly nothing of importance, and sometimes nothing at all, and not enough is used for anything that matters.

I also believe that it does not matter how we vote, or what we say anymore, as the majority floats through life completly oblivious to facts, and only turns to biased media outlets for their daily "intellect." This leaves those of us with half a brain, or any amount of pride in our country, attempting to change things for the better, staring at a government so engrossing that nothing gets done.

All I really know for sure is that I am 21 years old, have spent entire too much time bitching, screaming, and sitting at local hearings, giving myself an aneurysm in the process, only to have the people I know tell me I am crazy and..alas.. nothing changes.

I am voting for Robin Williams this election, and that is all I have to say about that yall.

Since when did anyone say anything of importance at debates? From what I seen (granted I havent seen much..) debates are more about getting your face on TV and saying I love America and my wife, than about what they stand for.
