why PO-PO?

"Oh no it's the the PO-PO" Whats up with this, I mean I can see brothers in the hood using it because they probably cannot pronounce "police" but when you have middle even upper class people saying this just not right........................
Oh well just me I guess. I always kinda liked five-O myself

Because they heard it in a movie, or a CD is the only reason I can think of them using it.

A buddy of mine, who is a police officer told me that he got a reprimand becasue of the word "PO-PO"

It was a routine traffic stop. It was a sports car occupied times two by young females. He approached the vehicle. The young lady driving rolled down the window. She said "well, if it isn't the PO-PO", to which he replied...

"Well, if it isn't the HO-HOs!"

This chick wasn't a "Gangsta" she was the daughter of a city councilman. Oh well!

I bet she thinks twice of calling another officer "PO-PO"

Maybe they just stutter when they get nervous.

The first time I heard it was in the newer version of the movie Assault on precinct 13 when a black female gang banger used it and i have heard it too many times since then just sounds dumb coming from the wrong type people. Guess I'll start calling my Jeep a JE-JE........naw that sound even worse than PO-PO.

Around here the cop cars say "HoCo Police" on the side. Im willing to be somewhere a cop car said PoCo Police or some shiet, and some wannabe gangster thought he was slick coming up with PoPo.

I don't mind it at all - nobody really uses it as an insult AFAI am concerned (at least around here). i was told when I started that it was started by inner city kids who couldn't really talk well yet, and it caught on. Then the dorky crackers with a race transplant picked it up and the rest is history.

OK....gotta put my comments in here. I cannot stand all the gangbanger bullshit speech therapy failures. PO-PO? Two syllables. Police. Again, two syllables. No time gains at all. In the military, acronyms and abbreviations are commonly used in order to shorten radio transmissions, and they are a standardized set of acronyms. However, there is not reason to make up these stupid (see above for many examples) "nicknames" for something. Take "ho" for example...this past Christmas Santa's in Australia were banned from saying HO HO HO. Why? It is American slang for a whore or prostitute. So a tradition that has been going on for many a decade is now banned because some stupid loser decides to shorten whore to ho. Not to mention the fact that a (some) politician(s) decided they didn't want to offend anyone with tradition. Police works just fine for me, and these damn stupid people who seem to think they need their own language need to take their happy butts to Borders and purchase a dictionary!

Sorry, had to rant! Maybe this should have been posted in Cains "I hate everything" thread. Hats off to the police, down with po-po!

I had a buddy of mine who got called a cracker on a trafic stop. His response: "so am I a saltine or a wafer?"
He said the guys face was priceless and refered to him as sir or officer after that.

I don't care either way, I'm not the one who gets put in the back of the black and white after the night is over.

Roscoe was da-man. Really being called these colorful names really doesn't bother me it's the fact they think there cool besides my real name goes on the citation (actually I usually don't write unless they talk me into it)..

Welcome to my world. The term Po-Po is one of the nicest things we get called. Even the tax paying citizens call us the Po'-lice. Sir or officer are words I haven't heard in a lifetime. While I expect it from the getto dirt, it's annoying to hear it from middle class kids and adults. Now the cops are the badguys and the gangsters are the good guys. Try to think of a receint movie in which the cops were not corrupt.
Support your local police. While everyone hates the cop that gave them a ticket, they are likely the only strangers around who would put their lives on the line for you and ask nothing in return.
Stand up and take pride in them. They are your "cops". They do the fighting for you. They get their power from you and when someone slanders, assaults or disrespects them, they are doing it to you and every other tax paying citizen. In 2007 over 150 officers died in this country (a new record). The majority were brutaly murdered. Few citizens seem to care and public support, at least here in Southern CA, is low.

where im from its still called smokey or the fuzz. We resrve the term smokey for state troopers, and still refer to their cars as gumball machines even though they havent that style light on their cars for 30 years.
