Windows 8- opinions

We just upgraded to windows 8 and I have to say....I cannot get used to it!!! Has anyone had any issues with the upgrade? I can't play videos of any kind despite updating my video card drivers (bought last year) and it will occasionally lock up hard on me requiring a full power down manually.
If this isn't normal, I'm thinking I may have to format the HD but I'd rather not if it will continue anyhow.

Haven't felt the need to upgrade from Win7. My roommate has it on his new laptop though and hasn't had any issues with it. Other than just getting used to the new UI.

I made the mistake of doing an upgrade on one of my machines. Lasted a few days and then I wiped it and installed Windows 7 again. It may be good for some people, but I found ALOT of things that didnt work well and my humble opinion was that the entire OS was just a PITA.

Ive never felt as old as I did setting up my daughter's laptop after Christmas. Windows 8?? It vexed me.

Can my kids setting my VCR clock be far behind?

I haven't really seen any benefit to "upgrading" beyond not being able to watch videos and waste my time.
It seems like a good OS if you're going to use it on a touch screen system or tablet, but for PC this blocky facade is really awkward to get used to.
Just wondering if I'm missing something or if anybody else finds this to be a step backward...

It is a big step backwards for windows imo i loved XP and anything that came after is just overloaded and bloated and not very user friendly. From all the reading i've done and all the comps i've played with i can see it working for a tablet but not a old fashion tower pc.

I ran the RC1 awhile back just to test it out. Took some getting use to, but can't see any reason to upgrade with the machine I have now. I wouldn't mind it if I had a touch screen. I'm tempted to upgrade, but I don't think the fam would much appreciate it.

my Mom just bought her first computer ever (she's 70) and it has windows 8 pre-installed. I had to learn how to use it, set everything up and teach her how to use it. I was ready to burn that computer on the porch about 100 different times over the past 2 days.

I always liked Vista for some reason. People that I talk to complain about Vista and how it was horrible. I never liked Windows 7, I could never figure out how it worked (seems weird but idk). Windows 8 (though I have never tried it) seems like it would be good for one of the new flip tablet/laptops but not for a mouse and keyboard computer. XP was my ultimate favorite Windows OS and I kind of regret getting rid of my old Dell XP 2000.

I now have one Dell Studio Laptop with Vista and one Mac (I said it).

XP was an excellent OS, very reliable. I also liked 7 because it seemed like a fancier version of XP without much mess or fuss. This new fandangled POS is driving me nuts. Formatted the drive....still can't play videos. I'm starting to think I should have just kept 7 and never upgraded.
Has anyone had any experience with the all-in-one computers? I guess if it had a touchscreen, it might make the "8 experience" a little more palatable but I'm worried the AIO systems are weak and just more expensive because of convenience....

Are you using windows media player? Have you downloaded the codec pack from the MS website? I recommend you download VLC player. Its lightweight and plays everything i throw at it video/audio i've been using it for years with the occasional hick-up here and there but much much much much more reliable then WMP.

Considered upgrading my vaio to windows 8, but my buddy who's a computer engineer student advised against it, not user friendly at all, lots of bugs, and all his knowledge is from beta testing it. Instead he said to get myself a chromebook, and I'm considering that a better investment.
