working in america?? from Down under

My wife and I, both teachers ( shes grade 1 + and im highschool) are thinking of a change. Can someone recommend a company to talk to or job application place as we think america is the place where we want to live and explore.

We arent too educated on the terms and conditions of a working visa which is why we thought there might be a company who can guide us or point us the right way.

Thanks

Andrew C

I would start surfing monster.com and sites like that. They list all over the US. Why would you wanna move from down under?

Not to discourage, but you're choosing to move in this economic climate?

Don't come to California, this State is BROKE and in debt to the Fed up to its eyeballs! Unless you want to teach for a private school, they're doing just fine.

aus is good but time for a change

aus is good and fun but it just isnt for me anymore. ive lived in london and hated it, lived on the gold coast, loved the surf and life but got bored. Cairns is by far the most fun place i have lived in but we are just ready for a change of lifestyle and maybe even career. i knew the economy wasnt good at the moment but maybe ill give it a little longer before i pack up the house here.

oh and yes we do have computers here

Yeah, definitely consider waiting before you decide to pack up and move over here to teach...right now many schools are facing huge budget cuts. Some are laying teachers off/terminating "unnecessary" positions...and others are simply not replacing those who retire.

Buuut...once the economy recovers, teachers are normally in fairly high demand here. And being that you're not from America, I bet schools will snatch you right up since they will feel that you may have a lot to offer...not to mention it will be a lot of something different.

I would come over for a holiday & have a look around first to see where you would like to live. Go online & find stats' on all the different states. Then if there is somewhere you like the sound of, visit when you are here & check it out in person. The Taxes change from state to state, some are quiet high & some are reasonable. As others have said, the economic situation is not perfect here but it is slowly picking up.
And of course if you need an Aussie contact, I am from Central Vic, so PM me & I can send my email address. I live in Utah

If you haven't gotten more out of the insurance company than you deserve, then you haven't screwed them nearly as much as they have been screwing you for the past xx years.

It's funny, I was listening to the radio the other day and people were talking about leaving America for Austraila. Oh, well, I guess the grass is greener no matter which side of the fence you're on.

If you do come here, don't work for the government! Those of us under 50 do twice as much work because those over 50 don't. They stay until they're 70 and never retire, hogging all the service chief jobs. I think some of them have even died but still occupy their desks. Oh!, Beoing is going to build the 787 here in Charleston, 3800 new jobs.
