Wow, no president speech thread yet?

so what did everyone think? i missed the first half, but my impression of what i saw was this: hey obama, you got the job, quit campaigning.

he's a great speaker, but it was all a bunch of nice thoughts. hey, i'm working on making the 4.0 get 30 mpg, can i be president.

i heard a couple things about increasing troops, and increasing money for banks, as actual actions. the rest was a bunch of happy thoughts, like every american getting more education, and making college affordable. and this is great: NOT PASSING ON A DEBT TO OUR CHILDREN??? isn't it way too late for that.

i didn't catch the whole thing, so what was everyone's thoughts?

I heard no tax breaks for corporations that are exporting jobs. I heard cut the budget deficit in half, although reports of two-third were leaked.

It is way late for the debt issue, but if we could balance the budget and have that be an issue for both political parties that would be a start. The debt will take several hundred years—longer than our nation has existed.

Think of it this way, you can now spread your Hillary hate around so it won't be so concentrated.

i thought it was a really good speech and set in a positive tone that everyone needed. He has some good ideas for education, healthcare, and energy IMO. Hopefully he can pull us through this muck sooner than later.

Using the “Bully Pulpit” to apply ethical pressure is something we have not seen in a while. Speaking as a father and telling kids to stay in school and that sort of thing is a good sort of voodoo. I don’t think we should be dismissive of it.

My new catch phrase " Obama lied, my bank account is fried". The guy has not one clue as to how to run this country. He campaigns and that is it. Funny thing is or not so funny, is that they refuse to acknowledge it. He keeps saying the last 8 yrs this the last 8 yrs that. So much for looking forward...... I am sick of the rhetoric.

Notice I didnít say it would work, only that if you want him to do more than he has in his first few days I would like to hear your master plan.

Cut taxes. Tell businesses that made bad decisions to bail themselves out. Open drilling offshore and Alaska. Cut federal spending by half the first year. Assure business that he's suddenly had a change of heart, seen the light and is no longer a socialist. Realize that bipartisanship actually means working with the other side and not "we won so it's our way or no way" Quit talking about carbon cap and trade stupidity, and quit talking down the economy.
That'd be a good start.

Oh, and turn the damn thermostat down in the white house if your going to be telling others to do it. Lead by example.

So lets say he wont do any of these, wouldn't you want him to do less or not act, rather than wanting someone you disagree with to do more?

1.) Sounds like he is going to cut taxes.

2.) He is going into the banks to look at the records. I think this may be a way of saying no without spooking the stock market.

3.) Drilling offshore and in Alaska is almost completely symbolic. Canada and Brazil will have to bail us out short term.

4.) Businesses have been paying into social welfare programs for a long time as have workers. What do you call the no-bid defense contracts? Subsidies for the agro-business, which Obama specifically spoke about ending. That’s no small point.

5.) On bipartisanship, consider that the Republicans gave away a huge chunk of change with Zero accountability. Doing it their way in this regard should be a non-starter. Now I believe they are working together on the budget and cost cutting as we speak.

6.) Carbon caps are a good idea, as is lowering highway speed and safety standards. It would allow Ford and other American manufacturers to bring in some of the cars they sell in Europe, and help lower our dependence on oil.

7.) We need to be very clear about the mistakes that we have made so we don’t repeat them. If it is uncomfortable to own up and take credit for the Republicans then we can all sit around and weep.

8.) If I get this thread Obama is being crapped on for talking up the economy.

Thank you Jesus for that rhetorical question. The thread is about his speech post election. When he says he is going to take the axe to agribusiness subsidy that is huge. That takes real balls, which is a distinct change over the last 8 years of corporate c@ck gobling.

President Obama could have presented the golden goose and some would still not be pleased with his speech, just as he could have taken a crap on the podium and certain people would applaud his actions.

It's all talk. He says he says he says, I don't really care until he does.
