WW2 M1 rifle

If you came here looking for pics of one, sorry.

I'm trying to find one for my son to use in WW2 reenactments at his military school. It would need to be able to shoot blanks (yes I know their effects on the barrel). I'm not looking for something that is museum ready, but something that is in good, fireable shape and something that has parts available during the WW2 timeframe.

I know we have some gun fans here who could help point me in the right direction. I looked at ww.odcmp.com and they are out of M1 Garands until 10/2007 at the earliest. I'd prefer to NOT buy new, but would want something that is mechanically sound.

Something like this one on gunbrokers.com

GunBroker.com Item 70657550 [Ends Apr-27-07 10:40:40 PM] M1 Garand Springfield WWII Semi Auto Rifle

would be ideal. I honestly just don't know what to look for in a quality M1 of that era.

My Dad carried a BAR (Browning Automatic Rifle)during the war. I'd love to, at least, shoot one, if not own one someday.

We have gun shows but the actual guns there tend to be pretty expensive, shopping on the net can produce much lower prices and a better selection.

There is one in Mesquite (Dallas Suburb), Big Town shopping center, about every other month or so, and you can get just about anything, at just about any price range. When I bought my .45, I got 7 or 8 different prices. It's crazy, but fun. Plus, the guys walking around in sandwich boards sometimes have great deals, too (no overhead).

We have a few WW2 rifles and will check around for you here in DFW with some of my old contacts.

I see you want the Garand is there any other model You might need or want, that I can check with other collectors/ shops here.

I have a cherry 1903-a3 6 groove sniper(still working on the milspec issue scope) but thats not for sale and locked in a safe. I'm sure I could track a few down though.

Does it have to be a garrand?

The last gun show I was at (last week) was loaded with M1 Carbines for cheap. Not in the greatest shape but the claim to be in good working order.
I passed on the guns but I did pick up some 30 round clips for mine

Dunno what happened, a year ago they were everywhere for sale, especially CMP. Give THR (www.thehighroad.org)a try, you could even ask for someone to bring one for your son to use. Those are real good guys over there, one of them even took me to a range, paid for it, brought about 6 of their own firearms, paid for the ammo, and let me try them out to see what I liked best. Never paid a cent, and the guy would do it again in a heartbeat. There was also a Garand in the forsale section (need to be registered to see it) not too long ago in Charolette NC but that might be a little too far. Anywho, its worth a try if you dont wanna spend 800 for one, just see if they will let ya borrow one or post in the wanted section.
