X-mas questions

I'm buying my father in-law an air hose that retracts and some shop lights.

First what is the size of an air hose? Just the regular air tool hose.
I see 1/2" and 3/8" on ebay so not really sure what to get? Can both be used? Is one better then the other?

Also for lights what would be ideal?
I see Florescent lights with either 1 light, 2 lights, 3 lights, 4 lights? Possibly more. Would the more lights be the best? I plan on putting them above our lift in front of the shop. There is a 12-15ft roof over it, so would need some good lights, or possibly could hand them with wires?

Alright thanks. I'm sure he'd love a nice air horn for his truck though too.
