Xtreme 4x4 is crazy

So turned on Xtreme 4x4 today cause it said they were doing a "budget" TJ build. All I can say is I wish I had thier kind of money to be on a budget.

They put on a high rise tube fenders, rocker panels and rear corner protection that they said was $1300. Then they put on a crazy 4 inch lift with belly up skid that they said cost $3400.

So $4700 dollars so far and they were still going to put on 40 inch tires with 17 inch bead lockers and 1 ton axles.

How on earth is that a "budget" build?!?

they talk about budgets in one episode. you gotta think how much does a well built capable tj cost to build. there's people with well over 20 grand in their tj w/ the purchase price of 10 grand or less.

i think that thing comes in around 10-15 grand for a well built tj, thats not bad.

10-15K for a Jeep with a low COG set up on 40's is damn cheap.

It's a pay-to-play sport.

$ 15k isn't that much. Hell, brand spanking new one ton axles could cost $ 10k + themselves.

All valid points I still think that is crazy for them to call it a budget build. There are so many other ways they could have gone in terms of a low cost build. It might not have been as capable in the end but low budget builds probably shouldnt be. They should be low cost.

You can't fault him for speaking the truth If Jeep lost their way with the YJ, they must have been smoking crack when they came out with the 2WD JK!!!

I'd love to take that bastard for a ride sometime. I bet there's a few YJ owners around hear that could change his mind.

D@m if that ain't the truth. I know that there are a few 2wd TJs in other countries as well.

Far as a budget.... My Rubi was 23k used before any mods. 15K is dirt cheap for a sick built jeep on 40's I've got 36k into mine (with purchase) and only on 35's. Our second jeep has 68k into it and still on rubi axles with 37's

You can.....Ian is on Pirate all of the time talking about different things from the show. There were numerous things on the YJ that just made no sense like the pugeot tranny.

Hell I have at least 10k and more into my TJ

after reading all of the posts in here and thinking about my cj, i think i figured out what the problem was. extreme 4x4 is doing all of the mods at once and spending all of that money at once, instead of spreading out the upgrades over a few months or years. when you think of all of the times you spend a few hundred here and a thousand or two there, it would add up quickly and you would be surprised just how much you spent.

Tony the owner of GenRight (the guy at the beginning of the episode who droped off the TJ with all the parts) has a SICK YJ.

whats his screen name? its almost worth going there to see about that.

i didn't hear the yj bash, and i've always liked ian and the show. but c'mon, there's no reason to bash any wrangler.

yj's made improvements over cj in a stronger frame, stronger windshield frame and body parts, wider, softer, and more stable leaf springs. there's no reason to say what he said. i'm not a fan of a lot of things on tj's, air bags, carlike interior, dome lights and door switches, the only thing i do like is the suspension, but who cares, no reason to go bashing other jeeps.

and i guess tj's lost thier way cuz they used the ax5 trans, and cj had thier share of crappy trans. t4 and t5 and the 3 speeds i can't remember the name of. so what.

I watched it as well. It caught my interest as a New owner....I about shit myself when I saw what they were doing.

Its cool that 40's can fit without rubbing on that little of a lift, and some body trimming
But won't they need entirely new diffs, rather than just axles? and will 40's really fit w/o rubbing? (hey I'm a newb, what can I say.)

I don't think 10k is going to touch this build. There's just too many things that have to be done once you start down the "OMG I'm freaking nuts" road.

I didn't like that they armored the body without armoring the bits that will leave you stranded...maybe that's next week I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Well there you go! Explains everything!

I don't know the guy but I have watched the show for a long time. Maybe he wasn't as serious as everyone thinks he was. Everyone has seen me and a few other YJ owners picking at each other on the board about the shape of our headlights and problems each model has. I love YJ's and they can be made into some pretty wild off road machines just like the CJ and TJ. Maybe he was just giving a little on air nudge at the YJ owners like I like to do on the board.

Round> Square don't forget that!

oh boy i guess i started something now. ok i agree their was things on the yj that were not the best. but the tj has its fair share of issues as well. i agree with doc on this their is no reason to bash any jeep. they are all better then most production suv or trucks. and i know eian also said that's why people choose jeeps but why bash the yj on purpose that's not a cool thing. but any way to answer the question above no. they are replacing the axles with bigger ones so they can take those tires. right now they would probably pop a shaft pretty quick. didn't hear if they did the sye already but its most likely on the way.

Go to Powerblock tv site and rewatch the show. Ian starts off by saying "this build is not really going to be a budget build because obviously inside the back of this jeep represents a substantial investment."
