Again I must quote good ole Carlin on this one
" I believe if you vote, you have no right to complain. People like to twist that around – they say, 'If you don't vote, you have no right to complain', but where's the logic in that? If you vote and you elect dishonest, incompetent people into office who screw everything up, you are responsible for what they have done. You caused the problem; you voted them in; you have no right to complain. I, on the other hand, who did not vote, who in fact did not even leave the house on election day, am in no way responsible for what these people have done and have every right to complain about the mess you created that I had nothing to do with."

I love my country. I love the ideas upon which it was founded.

I wish we sought the same goal we did when our founding fathers were around. I wish the Constitution and the Bill of Rights meant something. They do not. America has lost its way.

If there were one candidate that I felt was working for the People, for the Country... Not for Money...

I would vote for this person.

Someone who would not be corrupted...

...

Why must we, as a people, be such douchebags?

I voted today but I did not vote for the lesser of two evils. I voted to send a message to all elected officials that if they do not listen to the American Citizens and make sound decisions accordingly, they will be removed to give someone else a chance. No one really knows anything about a politician's intentions until we see them in action. If we don't feel that they are living up to OUR expectations, then it is our responsibility to show them the door. We are their bosses. If you had an employee who never listened to your instructions and never completed the task, would you fire them or just let them hang around and get paid for undermining your wishes for your company? Doesn't make much sense, does it?

In the words of Homer Simpson "With voting at an all time low I am more of an American by not voting". Ha ha. Yes I voted today and yes I agree that you cannot complain if you did not vote.

The problem isn't we don't have good candidates...we do...they just don't run because of all the bitching and moaning by those who don't have a single solution to the problem.

Not enough people stand up for what they believe in, so the career politicians are free to do what they want. JDsDream said it, WE are their bosses. Our government is supposed to be working for US.

What's happened is, these baby boomers, these soft, fruity baby boomers, have raised an entire generation of soft, fruity kids who aren't even allowed hazardous toys anymore. What ever happened to natural selection? Survival of the fittest? The kid who swallows too many marbles or sticks his finger in a light socket doesn't grow up to have kids of his own. Simple as that, nature knows best! Most of our politicians would have been that kid that swallowed to many marbles and the world would be a better place if nature was allowed to take its course. but theirs to much emphasis on safety and safety equipment. childproof medicine bottles, fireproof pajamas, child restraints, car seats. And helmets! Bicycle, baseball, skateboard, scooter helmets. Kids have to wear helmets now for everything Grown-ups have taken all the fun out of being a kid and again it makes soft fruity kids who don't stand up for themselves and what they believe in, they allow themselves to be controlled by the government.

you said it, brother.
time for americans to pick themselves up, rub a little dirt in their wounds and get back on the horse. we need to learn to be responsible for ourselves again. the politicians aren't going to do it for us, we need to do this on our own. you don't say "i've had enough" by voting, you say it by action. there's 300 million plus people in this country, we need to restore the people to "by the people, for the people".

Most Americans can't even ride horses...and refuse to take responsibility for themselves.

Personally I'm all for overthrowing our current gov't and setting up a new fresh one. but voicing this puts me on a gov't hitlist, and I'll probably "disappear" in my sleep tonight.

By not voting, you are doing absolutely nothing to change what you see as wrong. other than saying "I didn't vote, b/c there was nobody worth voting for"...well what did you achieve by your inaction? the same thing the President has achieved by his inaction...nothing. So carry on with your rants and raves about how others are stupid, but until you are ready to stop bitching and start acting what will you achieve? ready? NOTHING.

If you want to go about changing the gov't in a legal manner w/o killing people then it will be a slow process, in which you must vote out the already corrupt, and try to replace them with lesser evils. doing this multiple times will get you the result you want...it takes time to do things w/o civil war. If you want civil war, then get after it. Either way you're going to have to stand up and stop being a push over, who bitches to their mother after they get trampled on by "the man". Your inaction says a lot. YOU are one of the millions that others here are referring to. You may not realize it, but you are. Complaining about all the politicians being crooks doesn't help the problem.

On the other hand those who voted for 'change' in the last election are responsible for all the crap that has been passed in the last two years...way to go! You certainly did make things change!

Voting for change, just to change is not intelligent...its irrational. If you believe in a candidate that was on the ballot, by all means, vote. If not, again, why support someone who stands for things you do not believe in?

I completely agree. those people were sheep who were too weak minded to see through the veil of Bull.

I am not an advocate for "change" I'm an advocate for "Improvement" and "resisting declination".

The problem is that many people can be smooth talked into anything.

I find it difficult to understand that you can't find a candidate whose beliefs are close enough to yours, and one whose beliefs are so far off from yours that you cannot choose one, if not only to prevent the other from taking office. My point is that those who did not vote in the last pres. election are just as much to blame for the situation we are in, as those who voted for Hitler #2.\

I'm going to go ahead and exit this thread, as political threads generally piss me off, and I don't feel like being pissed off today.

I'll end with, "do as you please, but blame only yourself for the results you achieve" This is a rule for life, not just politics. I think its clever, and I made it up.(didn't steal it from a comedian)

Saw him a number of times when I lived in Syracuse, I remember my mom calling me crying when he past. Carlin and Doug Stanhope are and were the best tell it like it is comedians.

Voter turnout about 47 percent in Missouri - Columbia Missourian

So yeah, the majority of people in Missouri could not find a candidate worth voting for...

well, you can't really expect a candidate to have our best interests in mind until candidates come from working, middle class families, because that is what the majority of amercians are. i believe that honest, hard working folks don't want to be politicians, because there is an innate stink about everything politicians do. they whore themselves, play to people's fears and take the credit when something goes right, but always point the finger when something goes wrong. honest people don't want to be part of the corruption.

maybe they should teach politics in trade schools, lol.

i'm not supporting a violent overthrow of anything, but we all need to start with ourselves. when we can find a way to put our differences aside, become responsible for ourselves, be willing to help each other out, we can do great things. that is the first and hardest step. if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem. i think the VAST majority of americans have bought into or been fooled into being part of the problem. politics have become a gang war, i think this election proved it. people throw labels at others who don't think the same way they do. they hate the people on the other side without taking the time to listen or reason with them.
the only sane people left are centrists, in my opinion.

I absolutely agree with this. To take that a step farther, true change won't happen until we, the working class people with actual real world skills (not degrees in politics), stop merely voting and start running for office ourselves.

We need politicians to make the median salary of their constituency and not be allowed any kickbacks.

It also needs to be made cheaper to be able to run for office.

99% (and I just pulled this figure out of my a$$) of our "elected" officials are rich senior citizens. Is there a better way to get out of touch with America? Rich and Old.
