Anybody going to EJS 2013 ?

I want to hit Moab this spring for the first time and can't decide if I want to go for Easter Jeep Safari or go another time. I hear it's an amazing week and there are tons of giveaways and raffles and such, but also don't want to sit in line forever to run trails everyday.

Anybody going this year and want to get a group together or have any advice? If I decide not to camp, I know I should book a place to stay asap.

Any input is appreciated.

Me and Katie have been looking at moab around the same time. ejs the rates were very high at that time so we were thinking before or after.

Yeah i agree, I was originally planning to camp seeing how high hotel and condo rates are looking for that week and things are getting more and more scarce by the day. I've been looking for a few weeks now and prices have jumped a good bit.

I'm afraid camping may not turn out to be the best time considering it's still going to be March then and weather could hit any time

Yeah prices get crazy in that time frame. I'd almost rather go in summer so camping could be an option

I'm planning on going the week before and staying for the opening weekend. Weather is good enough for camping.

I think I'll go this year, just so see the mess. Not planning on running with their crews though. I've got a buddy who I stay with there, if he's full I sleep in the yard, if not I've got a bedroom. Camping will be tough, more people there than downtown denver that week.

I'd love to have someone else along I know to go hit some other runs. I wan tto hit Pritchett this time around, I keep missing that one.

I was just there last weekend, and if you need some camping help I know a few spots that are off the radar you might be able to it up to camp.

this is where I camped last weekend...

One of the better spots I've found out there.

I'm starting to think this would be the best route. I might come out thursday before opening weekend and stay thru the middle of EJS week and see how it goes

Yeah any spots you can show me so I don't have to be stacked up with everyone else would be awesome as I like my own space . Plus, i'd feel better about it since you've wheeled out there and I've never been

My guess is you'd want to be out there WAY before Thursday to guarantee a spot. Camping spots on normal weekends fill up by Thursday never mind EJS weekend. I've gotten good spots in Sand Flats Rec area by showing up early Wednesday afternoon and been relegated to cow pastures by showing up on Thursday afternoons. There are some out of the way spots that dont generally fill up but you're exposed to the elements aka the SUN so bring your own shade. I go every year in late April early May mainly for Mtn biking but I'll need to build in some extra days this year for the jeep. Best time of year is late March-Mid May and late September to Early November.

I've made several trips to SLC Ski Areas on EJS weekend and I can't imagine what Moab looks like just based on the traffic streaming back to the SLC area on Sunday night .....must be total chaos on the trails that weekend. No thanks....

Thanks for the advice. I'm re-thinking this trip now timing wise. I'm also worried about all the traffic and just how many people will be out there and how long running a single trail would be unless I get as far away from the crowd as possible

Easter jeep is a great spectator sport. If you are going to wheel it is not the best time to go. I am going to make a few trips for wheeling in 2013. Want to go to easter jeep but it is unknown if I will. It is awesome to just wander around the displays

our group from steamboat went to ejs last year and camped. some weather hit but it was still a great time. and the lines at the trails were not bad unless something was broken.

Yeah man let me know if you can go that week, it'd be cool to wheel with you again . It's about the only time I can get out there for a couple days till mid or late april or so.

Thanks for all the input everybody. If anybody can go and wants to wheel together let me know. I'm thinking about going out there Thursday or Friday before opening weekend and stay till mid week or so and stay away from all the group run like backcountry was saying, so getting a group together would be awesome so I'm not forced to either run alone(which I won't do) or stick to the monstrous groups

Good deal man. Keep in touch and let me know. You'll need your steering more than likely

I'd like to find a place away from all the commotion to camp, but within a reasonable distance

yea, will def have to do some planning. Maybe even an early two day recon trip.

Steering shows up tomorrow, realized my tie rod is bent though so waiting for my new one to show before I put the ram on. Do you have dates yet?

Opening weekend is Saturday march 23 thru 30 March. I'm thinking of going up either Thursday 21 or Friday 22 if Thursday doesn't work. Thinking of staying till Wednesday or Thursday 27-28 depending on how covered up the area is

That sucks you tagged the tie rod too. I'm looking at the RK tie rod myself as I need to start addressing steering components
