Anyone Interested?

So I took some of the teenage kids of a family I know that lost their home out in the jeep last night around dusk. Took the top off the Jeep, drove up 83 and then came back. I noticed that the kids went from being kinda bummed to having smiles on their faces. So when I returned I tested my Idea. Got their dad to go out for a ride. He too also seemed to relax and enjoy the ride.

So, this got me thinking. Would any of you guys be interested in being a "jeep taxi" for a field trip around Rocky Mountain National Park with some people who lost homes? The reason I use taxi is that this trip isn't about you or me. There won't be any rock crawling or crazy trail speeding. This is for their enjoyment. Show up, safari or off the top, drive people and don't be a douche is all I'm asking.

Northerners:
You'd be welcome to join if you wanted. My idea is that if there is a decent turn out of both jeeps and people willing to go for a day trip the southerners would meet up and if we had to many people and not enough jeeps in the south we'd have some non-jeeps in our caravan to meet up with the northerners. If this happens meet somewhere in Denver where we can drop the cars off and everyone load up in Jeeps and we go do our thing.

At the moment this is just an "idea". I have no clue if the families I could get in touch with would be willing to do it. However, I liked the idea and figured I should see if I could even get the Jeeps. As for gas/lunch costs I'll cover them. You're putting miles on your Jeep and taking complete strangers with you, that's good enough. This isn't about money and I won't let it be.

Again, if you commit to this, if it happens, don't do something stupid to cause you to bail out at the last second. Don't go out Saturday and break the Jeep if we're going Sunday. This would impact more than just you.

Cool idea! Curious how this will pan out, and what kind of interest you will generate in this. Wish I could get involved

Hmm, I have a four door. I could strip the old girl down and do a little looky Lou type run. As far as my gas an food, that will be on me.. Least I could do for people who lost it all. Could go anyway you want. Could run mild to wild stuff, lots of easy trails up old stage road that the jeep tour groups run. Let me know what the ultimate plans are, I can go any direction you think would be of mental help to those who are in need.

Wish I was around sounds awesome! Just my 2 cents eagle rock has a scenic drive up then the trail is very fun with nothing that will make your passengers suck up the seat cushion... Again I'm not going but it's a great loop for both aspects and Dan knows the trail frontwards and backwards... Probably because he has hit most of the trees on that trail

Have fun guys

haha, but he is right... but it was icy then. Just the mount baldy trail is so mild a stock grand cherokee can run it. If there was a few people who wanted a little more adventure we could run the eagle rock trail and meet the others at mount baldy as the 2 trails meet at the top. It is a good spot to have a picnic and It offers the best look out over the city. I have no problem organizing the trail runs with those vehicles that want to be involved. I spend alot of time up in that area. I can take a few people interested in volunteering their jeeps for the trip on a pre-run up both trails and figure out meeting points for a picnic. We could set up food and coolers before hand and have everyone meet and enjoy the cool mountain air and scenery.

PS...you better invite the northern folk!!!!! I'd Be P.O.'ed if you didn't!!! 20 bucks/Jeep.to go across Rocky mtn park but I bet I could get it waved. I know a guy in Granby that would be more than willing to guide us to some great spots on the other side once we got there.
Just what the doctor ordered.
GREAT IDEA!!!!!!

It sounds like a great idea, but I can't commit to anything until the evacuations are lifted up here. Would ask that you don't do anything in the Teller area. Too freakin' dangerous. There are vigilantes out, and they are not happy campers. There is also too much risk of fire, we are a bloody tinderbox. I haven't be out since our last run in the gulches and have no intention of going back out there until things get sorted out up here.

Oh, and I forgot to mention US Marshals, FBI, FS investigators and our own local guys. It is very serious and no place to play.

Old guy if Dan leads he run no need to worry about vigilantism he rolls with a posse of green berets...

Seriously this sounds like a lot of fun and with this group it sounds like there will be more jeeps than needy families... That is a good thing

Matt, who the hell do you think the vigilantes are? You guys of all people should have a pretty good idea of who is back in the hills. There is an old saying, "Don't bring a knife to a gunfight", corallary, "Don't bring a .45 to a firefight" If you need any further explanation PM me.

As always you are right a .45 is not what you want in a firefight...
But I can assure you no one from group is out there as part of any sort of rouge group...

okay fellas, first off all remember this isn't a guaranteed thing.

Also, I chose RMNP because it's up north, where at the moment there is a whole lot less fire and a whole lot less of colorado springs. The Idea is to get them away from the area that no matter what they do they can't escape.

Also, I project this may take a few weeks. Patience is important. Timing is everything in this type of thing. Also, since it seems all of you are so on board with the idea I'm likely going to talk to a friend who is working one of the shelters to see if we can find others I don't even know who'd be willing to do this. I know this might be a bit odd but if we wait till Ed can come with us then it's not like anyone is gonna get all banjo in the back woods on us... I mean, have you seen Ed? Not in a million years would I pick a fight with him...........

I know that, and this is not some sort of "double dare you" Talk to some of the old timers, the guys who have totally had it, who just want to be left alone, where do you suppose they go from Carson? Up into the hills. There are enough Viet Nam vets and SF guys up here to form their own company, possibly battalion. They came up here because they just want to be left alone. And someone or someones are trying their damdest to burn down the forest and their homes. They are pissed and I don't blame them in the slightest. I almost feel sorry for the miserable bastards who have done this, almost but not quite. In a way I hope law enforcement gets them first, in a way I don't. I just want it over, so we can have peace in our hills once again.

Same question
Heard that at first but no follow up? Maybe protecting the investigation keeping it out of the media?

Yes, it was set, the investigators are now asking for anyone in the vicinity of the trails above manitou last Friday afternoon to evening to contact them. Those are hiking trails and there were no storms or lightening. Also the secondary fire north of the Rampart resevoir could not have happened spontaneously. We have been plagued by set fires since late spring. The authorities are taking this as arson and murder at this point. I was stopped today because I was driving the wrong make and color of vehicle this afternoon. I was asked about my whereabouts on Monday and before I got home my wife was contacted and asked the same questions. The investigator in question hung around my house until I got home to make sure that I did as I said I would. As soon as I got home he left. These people are playing for keeps, and I am very thankful that they are. There are some out and out psychos out there and they need to be stopped, now.
