It's almost that time of year again so let's get them rigs all put back together and shined up for the annual April Phools run.
The first is on a Friday this year so the second is the logical choice.
As always We will kick off the wheeling season by running Chinaman Gulch. I'm sure that our Local Yocal BVJeep will be posting his trail recommendations for this one.
So get it on the calendar and let's have another awesome day in Buena Vista. Can't wait to see all of you after a long snowy winter.
If someone wants to lead a stocker run then that would be awesome too.

Typically it's been pretty cleared up in past years with only a couple of inches in a few spots at most but it is Colorado so you never know for sure.

Well let's put the recommendations out there for the Chinamans Gulch run.

This trail is rated from a solid 5 to a hard 8. On a TJ or YJ I recommend a minimum of 33" tires and 3" of lift. On a JK weather it is a 2 or 4 door I recommend a minimum of 35" tires and 2.5" of lift. Cherokee I would say a minimum of 33" tires and 4" of lift.

Don't follow Doug.

You do not have to have lockers in your rig for this trail. You will want to be able to disconnect your sway bars and air down your tires.

Rookies are always welcome. Only thing I will say is you NEED to listen to the spotters. We will get you with a veteran so you will be able to get through as easily as possible. Now if you choose to ignore our suggestions, you may find out the hard way that we might have been right.

Follow Doug?

Now this a great trail but come prepared. Tools, spare parts, tow rope, and such are always nice to have. Watch the weather. April up here can still be chilly. Be prepared for the weather.

Really you want me to do what???

Bring a lunch. This trail is 7 miles long and takes about 6 hours to complete. Water, snacks and such.

(SHH I think he's not all there)

For those who I have not met or have not been on this trail. I have ran this trail MANY MANY times. I average about 7 trips a year and have been doing it for close to 10 years. If you don't feel comfortable doing something, dont. Some of the obstacles do not have bypasses. We will get you through it though.

So yes this is a fun trail, we know how to do it, we will scare a few of you, but damn it it's alot of fun.

Oh and yes, for those who have not met me yet. I am Doug / BV Jeep. May of us have built our rigs because of this trail. We started out a lot different than we are now. I may be a little crazy but I have a lot of fun.

Doug:
1) Personally I think you're stark raving looney :D And I don't want to hear anything about the pot calling the kettle black...
2) There was something else I was going to bitch about but I am having a senior year and I've completely forgotten what it was...

About those 33" tires: I ran this sometime last year on 33's just cuz and I will say that it can still be done but if you try this you are going to suffer, especially on the way down and your undercarriage is going to make the acquaintance of a number of large rocks that have absolutely no sense of humor. I did and that was with a 5" lift. Needless to say I will have my 35's remounted before this run.

Assuming the tire swap and working out a few glitches I'm in. Don't want Doug taking a wrong fork in the trail...

Hey guys, depending on how things go this winter, I might be on 35's by then. I haven't been doing much with the jeep since we bought the new house. Trail options in April are few and far between, but maybe some snow wheeling!!! Last year we did the north side of four mile and then across to the south side and ended up on Bald mtn overlooking the valley. We could check out the trails out toward Badger basin. If there is enough interest though, we could definitely do a stock run.

Well I think I'm going to admit defeat, although it has been bunches of fun picking on you ;) Although if she's that insane that she loves roller coasters on the tops of tall buildings how about if she rides up with you and down with me? Between the two of us we should be able to get her to scream "UNCLE!" :D

Remember the time we set a land speed record coming down? That should get her...
