It was the most thrilling thing. The rush you get from it was amazing. And any stock jeep can do it it's all about the driver. Sorry forgot to post pics. If I remember ill post them tonight. I also have videos. But those are long (wish is had the gopro at the time). Just remember the path is more about drivers confidence then your jeep. Example accidents happen because people got to scared of begin close to the wall and freaked out. I definitely glad I did it. As long as you have another person in the vehicle to get out and guide you, you should be fine.

these pics are from our trip back in July. Black bear is at the end.
I loved it and is now on the annual list.

Sorry for grave robbing but I'd really like more information on that old black and white photo if anyone knows details.

I've heard that it's a photo shopped picture of Black Bear pass used for a Warn winch poster

If I ended up on that trail with my wife, it would be some of the last breaths I took. Wanted to do it last July with WhiskeyMike, but was still closed due to snow. Maybe this year, but will need to find someone to spot me.

Here is your answer about the black and white photo on the edge of the cliff. From a 1975 Warn ad...

Black Bear was awesome. There's definitely spots where you can screw yourself if you're not paying attention, but it's not nearly as bad as I had expected based on the stories and myths. A spot helped on the first section of sharp switchbacks with my fat LWB arse.

freeskier, hosejockey61, and myself.

story I heard was it's from a Warn add. As you can see, the add is posted above. Black Bear has been improved quite a bit over the years. It's been widened and made far safer than it was "back in the day"....actually that goes for a lot of trails in Colorado. For example, the decent off Red Cone used to be very dangerous...I never saw it, but I've read there was a big ledge you had to drop off on the steepest part of the decent. It led to roll overs and accidents...in fact there's still a rusty old body of a vehicle at the base of Red Cone Peak. That dangerous section has since been mitigated and now it's just loose gravel type stuff, and as long as you don't panic, lock up your brakes or let the vehicle take off on the decent, it's fine.

I am trying to work it out I am about 90% sure we'll be able to be there for at least part of the trip. It is looking right now that we'll have to leave and come back Thursday the 30th. but the next 2 weeks will solidify if we are able to or not.

I admit I still have not bought a Wrangler and have never driven off-road though I have 30 years of dirt bike riding experience. I imagine in a manual transmission creeping down this switchback in 4-Lo is probably easier than it looks; AS LONG AS YOU DON'T PRESS THE CLUTCH IN IF YOU BRAKE. If you do that I expect you'll gather massive speed quickly and either go flying off a cliff or knock the person in front of you off. Not sure where I am going with this but I am so used to pressing in the clutch when I come to a stop I have genuine concern I may do that out of habit. Anyone else have this concern?

I'll probably be out toward the end of July I want to hit this trail, engineer, Ophir, and Imogene Pass. I do not want to do Holy Cross though that scares me
