Blanca Peak area

Anyone going to be at Moab during June 24 till the 27th? Or around Blanca Peak, CO the 28 or 29th?

I'm looking for a few jeeps to go with.

I'd possibly be up for Blanca that weekend, we're still getting snow at elevation at this point though.
Blanca is no joke, are you and your rig up for it? If conditions don't permit I'm in Colorado Springs...we could find something up here for sure.

Blanca might still have snow at the top even then. If i recall right we were in the 13K range at lake como near the top. Blanca is definitely no joke, make sure you watch the weather, if rain is in the forecast don't even think about doing it. That mountain will slap you with the respect stick quick fast and in a hurry. Me personally I would consider 35s to be the minimum tire size, a winch is a MUST, and lockers are almost a must. If you have a capable rig infront of you then that rig can get you off obstacles etc. If your in front you definitely need a winch. Now, I am not saying that you can't do Blanca without that gear, but it makes it much safer! Anyway, I would be down for another run up there in mid July..

By that time I will be on 40's, front and rear lockers, PR60/80 axles, so my jeep should be fine. I plan on doing a few days at Moab prior to going to CO so I should have a few days on the trails with the upgrades prior to doing blanca peak. Based on the minimum's you gave, I think I could've made it with my old set-up as well since I was on 35's, f/r lockers, rubi axles.

About how long does it take to go up and back? Available on June 27th? I'm debating whether to spend an extra day in Moab or go to CO a day early. Other jeeps I'm meeting in CO don't feel comfortable trying Blanca peak, so I might try it on Friday and then meet them on Sat or Sun.

I definitely would not try it alone. That mountain will slap ya with the respect hammer quick fast and in a hurry. I am free on the 27th, maybe Sinister 6 will be also. It takes about 2.5-3 hours to get up and 2 ish to cone down. It all depends on where u get hung up, and how many rigs you meet. Jaws 1 is a technical obstacle, 2, 2.5, and 3 will be easy on 40s.

I did this trail alone and with snow last year because we were climbing little bear and it's super sketch. A winch does you no good because everything on the inside of the trail is loose rock and shale so there is nothing to anchor to. The other problem is you want to take everything high to stay away from the edge but if it's all wet you will have to run the very edge of the trail. It is a badass trail though and lake como is awesome once your up.

I could make Friday, June 27 work. Ideally I'd like to camp Friday night at the lake, do some fly fishing and come down Sat. If not just an excuse to run it again!

Trail is clear all the way to como. Light snow bashing will take you further if you choose to. The trail is wetter than normal due to all the runoff but no snow on the trail up to Como. As usual there is water pooled at the top of Jaws2. This will make it more difficult if you take the high side and you don't have lockers/decent belly clearance. There was also water running just below the rocks before the obstacle. So at this point, you can expect wet tires for that obstacle.

Also, with the recent runoff it seems some of the rocks have grown a bit. Not really on the named obstacles, but the washout has made some of the un-named rocks on the trail more pronounced. Enjoy!

Hey guys. I don't know if I'm going to make this run. The good ole military has dropped a last minute move on us to Fort Hood, Tx. Will keep ya posted.
