Broken Front Drive Shaft

Went and ran Middle St. Vrain/Coney Flats this weekend. When we got of the trail and i took it out of 4 wheel drive and headed back towards Nederlands i heard i weird noise coming from the front end. At first i couldnt pin point where it was coming from but dang it was loud and annoying all the way home. The next day i crawled underneath her to see if i could physically see anything wrong. I couldn't see anything so i chalked the front tires and put the rear on jacks stands and try running her like that and i coudnt make the noise replicate. So then i knew it was something in the front drivline. I dropped the front drive shaft and went for a test drive and no noise. So Wednesday i dropped the drive shaft off at Rocky Mountain Driveline to see what the damage was. Scott the owner called me a few hours later and said that the CV joint went out and the drive shaft was going to need to be rebuilt. He is going to put all serviceable/greasable parts on the CV side and greasable U joints on the other side. Then put it all in a new tube. So the only original part will be the slip yoke. But he said it looks like it is riding at the right length which is what i was worried about since I have a 4'' lift and 35's. I dont know what the total is as i am waiting for the call to pick it up but he quoted me $289.

Cool beans..
Broke a front ujoint at the dunes a few weeks ago. Talked the wife through replacing all the front end u joints, two new upper diff bushings, and all u joints in the driveline, with centering ball. She did all the work; all I had to do was drink beer and give pointers.

You're not trying to turn on asphalt in 4wd?

Depending on how bad your drive shaft was before, You might just be feeling what a new driveshaft feels like...immediate response etc.

Did the joints move freely before you re-installed it?
