Jenny Creek
I'm relitivly new to Jeeps and off roading, but since we got our Jeep several months ago we have been hitting the trails all most every weekend. So far in the Front Range area, Jenny Creek has been my favorite trail. It has a little bit of everything... tight forest road just wide enough to drive through, a good section of rocky trail, one "main" rock obstacle (there is no by pass, but it is very doable, even with stock suspension), nice views and water. Man the water on this trail is great! My last trip up there was at the end of a very wet week as evidenced by the mud puddle pics below (they are on the way to the trail). Even with all that water, I was never concerned about flooding either the engine or the interior of the wife's daily driver. But, driving up (not across) some of the creek is just pure fun!
This trail is so much fun, I'm going to be making the 2+ hour drive from Colorado Springs again so that the rest of my family can experience this trail (my wife and oldest daughter missed out on the fun last time).
Here are some photos from the last time I went. If anyone would like to see video of the trail, I can upload that as well (huge file sizes).
Mud Puddles heading to the trail (hopefully we have these again!)
The first creek crossing, on this trip we had to drive around the truck stuck in the creek. His nose was blocking the trail going across just a little.
Just past that crossing is the toughest part of the trail. With a lift and larger tires you pretty much just drive over it. A stock Jeep will have to "work it" a little more.
The day we went the clouds were really low, so we did not get to see all the scenery, but it's there!
That's a little mountain lake behind us there. There a nice cascade that flows into from the mountain tops.
So what's the CoFam part? CoFam is short for Colorado Families. There are quite a few of us that like to go wheeling with our kids. This means we take it easier and much slower on the trails. We like to stop and taken in the scenery while the kids run around and play. We also take our time at lunch meeting new friends and catching up with old ones.
So, if you are more into hitting the trails hard and testing out just how far you can push your Jeep or how many trails you can do in the area, this run is most likely not for you (but you are still welcome of course!) But, if you are looking for an enjoyable day with families that like the same things you do, you and your kids will have a blast!
So if you would like to join us on this run, here is the meeting and direction info you will need.
Meeting place: Stage Stop Bar and Grill, Rollinsville Colorado
Meeting Time: 9:30am. Sunday August 25th
Lunch: On the trial, so pack one!
Some overview maps to give you an idea of where the trail is.
