Colorado move and shooting guns

Moving to Colorado in about 3 weeks. Wondering if there is a good place near Centennial to drive out and just shoot? Not looking for a range or anything, just want to run some through the old lever gun and 44 mag.

The state parks out by CoSpings are perfect for outdoor shooting. The road up to rampart range has lots of cutouts exactly for that. Otherwise you're limited to shooting at an outdoor range like Cherry Creek or going to an indoor range where they all charge you a lane fee.

I go shooting down in the Pike National Forest close to the town of Deckers. There are tons of places to shoot and tons of dirt roads to explore while doing so. I live in Centennial too and it takes me exactly one hour to get to Deckers on my motorcycle (a little longer in the Jeep though). So it's not exactly close by, but it's a fun journey there and back.

If you're interested, shoot me a message and I can e-mail you a map of the area with the places that I shoot circled on it. It can be kinda confusing if you don't know the area.

Also… if you head down to the town of Monument and then up Mt. Herman road, there are lots of places to park and shoot going up Mt. Herman Road too. I've never shot in that area though as it always looks crowded and trashy (I just ride my motorcycle up that road a lot and see the shooting spots).

Go up to Gilpin. There's some outdoor places up there you can go. I can ask David to see where he went when he worked up there.

Head down 25 to Monument and then take Mt Herman rd west towards Rampart Range and you'll find spots all along it to shoot.

You guys just made my day!! Moving to Castle Rock area as soon as my kid gets out of school for summer. Glad to know about all the shooting options. Was a little concerned about this due to my ignorance about the area and also Texas news media coverage of CO politics lately.

Plenty of places to shoot. Unfortunately, many people don't clean up after themselves and that's a real bummer. Need to have Tread Lightly principles for gun enthusiasts.

OMG I lived in Littleton back in 84-89 we used to 4x4 all the time on Rampart Range rd. It was awesome, at the time you were aloud to shoot on national forest as long as your 100 yds from roads so we used to take old TV's etc with us and shoot the crap out of them. for real fun take a gal can of spaghetti sauce and blow it away I wish I could get back there to 4x4 again. but FL is far away

A couple of us ran Eagle Rock and Saran Wrap last Sunday. There were shotgun shells all over the entrance to ER and several trees shot to the point where they actually broke off and fell over.
So much for our Forest Service managing our forests...at least that was the reason for bulldozing the entrance to ER.
With all the official ranges there's no reason to be shooting in our National Forests...it's just plane unsafe with all the activities that go on in them. Ft Carson's new range is only $10 I believe..

Yep. Part of the reason that they are not in a big hurry to open it back up. Buttheads are everywhere though. Eagle rock entrance wasn't a whole lot better last couple of times either. If I see them leave stuff I have no qualms about letting them know how I feel about it.

X2 man I've shot several times at left hand and always picked up my mess. I was discussed to see how poorly taken care of it was I have whole cases of empty beer on that trail before. I'd love to go to a range instead but age has its it's shortcomings so I do my best to take care of what I can use

Too many a-holes leave shells and targets/cans/etc. I guess trash don't recognize trash, but it sure makes people more and more anti-shooters.

Drives me bonkers when we go shoot up there and you find all the trash laying around. Whatever happened to policing your brass and regular trash? Have carried more out with me than what I took in.

Most folks are safe up there, but there are the others that scare me when I'm sitting open. Was up behind Herman a few weeks ago...all was well and then some others showed up. I'm not one to mind sharing a range area, but one of the guys was definitely looking for a Darwin award. I was clear and about to put some down range and out of my peripheral I see this guy walking down to the area I'm shooting. Halted and secured to let him post his target and get out of the way, but in my mind I'm thinking idiot, you never walk down when the range is active!

Some folks you just don't want to be in the same foxhole with. I do love the fact I can head up there and not have to pay range fees though!

And that's why you pay range fees.
