I'll be road tripping from New Jersey to Colorado May 3rd to the 14th. I anticipate arriving May 5th and heading back to Jersey the 11th, that gives me 6 days to explore your state. I am looking for the following;
1) people to wheel with
2) advice on where to wheel
3) places to check out (cities/towns, maybe Moab across the border)
I will probably spend the first day or two in and around Denver but would like to spend a day or so in Ouray (would trails be open early in may?) and/or any other suggestions from you locals.
I have a 16' jku w/ skids, bumpers, cb, 35s w/ a 3.5in lift, a couple of credit cards and just enough knowledge to be dangerous.

As Sinister6's said, the trails anywhere in the Colorado high country in May will be still snowed in. Most high passes are barely open by mid June at best. The lower front range trails will be your best bet. Unless you really want to try snow wheeling and really get stuck
Appreciate the insight BV, don't mind snow wheeling but not looking to get stuck. Perhaps a little poor planning on my part for a May trip, but as low man on the totem pole at the hospital I'm not getting this kind of time off between June and September.
I'm actually trying to get a couple more days off, so I may be coming out there earlier than anticipated ( be there April 30th or May 1st).
If this is the case, I think I'll have no excuse to not go to Moab.
Will keep you guys posted, looking forward to wheeling regardless
If I can get my Jeep ready by then, I'm game for some near Denver stuff. Not sure what will be open that early, but I'm down to try some trails. I'll keep an eye out on this thread.
Just in time for the latest snow storm. Just a inch or so here in Cortez, but road cameras at Red Mountain and Silverton show a bunch as does Rico and Telluride area. Mid June openings over this way might be a crapshoot. Moab is good to go though and weather is perfect, not too hot not too cold.
So I got a little road blocked today, literally. Hit Russell, Kansas and I-70 was shut down. Spending the night in a 1970's western themed hotel in Dodge City, lol. Looks like I'll be arriving sometime tomorrow through the south eastern side of the state. Any suggestions on things to check out as I come in? Anyone trying to wheel Tuesday and/or Wednesday? Will be heading to denver Wednesday night to pick my buddy up from the airport Thursday morning, then to Moab Thursday thru Sunday. Anyone want to show me around Moab?
Addendum: leaving dodge city now, heading to Leadville for the next two nights
