Not a drop of oil left in the engine. Having a minor panic attack right now while waiting for the freaking tow truck to show up.

Drain plug still in?

I somehow cracked the one in my 4runner and had the same thing happen. New plug and oil and I was luckily good to go

At the end of the day it's just a jeep. Glad you are safe.

I'll have to check that. Just had it towed directly to the shop. Undercarriage is covered in oil. I started it for a second to put it in neutral and it was shaking the whole chassis. Turned it off immediately. Doesn't look good to me.

It was fine one minute, then realized I was running 5k rpm's uphill but slowing down then poof smoke and oil everywhere. No check gauges no warning nothing. Limped it off to the side and to the next exit .5 mile and when I came to a stop it was vibrating and shaking everything. I would like to hope this is "just a jeep thing" but I'm not feeling too confident.

Hate to say it, but it sounds like you threw a rod through the side of the block. If so it's time for a crate motor. Any clanking noise before she let go?

Nope, no warning whatsoever. Fine one mixture then totally F'd the next.
That's what I'm afraid of. I'm 6 months into a 5 yr loan so I don't think i have any other options if the motor is shot.

I hope that is not what it is, but with losing the oil that fast and the bad vibration that is what it sounds like. Good luck and let us know what you find.

Isn't there a 100000 engine and drive train warranty?

Wow John. I'm really sorry to hear that. Here I was complaining about something considerable minor in comparison. That would really suck if it is a rod. I would hope it still under warranty.

No warranty. The 3 yr 36 expired and I had a 3 month 3k dealer warranty when I bought it in june that was more an insurance policy against this happening immediately after buying it. Either way ill be calling the dealer on Monday, email jeep a sob story etc and see what I figure out.

Another possibility that is not quite as dramatic. If your oil filter loosened up and started leaking it would pump the engine dry in a couple minutes.

I like this possibility! But I'm still preparing for the worst.
Thanks for all the offers for help, it is so greatly appreciated. I'm having the local wheel shop who are friends of mine take a look on Monday and go from there.

I hope all goes well for you.

In a worst case scenario now you can justify dropping a HEMI in it. lol

Just talked to the guys at the shop and the owner said "I've never heard of that happening on these, it doesn't sound good. We'll get a look at it this morning and let you know. Do you have a warranty?"

I've researched all the warranties and I'm about 90% I dont have one. 3yr 36 expired, the Limited Lifetime Powertrain that they started in 07 is only valid for the original owner and since the jeep was an early 07 sale I'm outside the 5 yr 100,000 mile that they had before the limited lifetime.

Still crossing my fingers that its a drain plug, or some other minor issue and that I didn't fry the engine as soon as all the oil blew out.

Not gonna be real productive at work today as I wait for this call.....

Thanks for the condolences.

I'm not sure yet. Local jeep dealer is calling his rep in NJ and seeing of he can "call Ina favor" on warranty even though I did nt buy it from him. I appreciate the effort but I'm not sure that's gonna go anywhere but worth a shot.

After that its probably a search for a refam motor. Don't really have much choice with so much left on the loan.
