Going Naked on the Cheap, Get that hard top off!

Had a few people ask me how I get my hard top off and store it. Here are photos of my storage system for going naked. I might have paid $85 for everything. I even got the wood pieces to attach it to the ceiling out of the scrap bin at Lowes for $.25 each.

I used lag screws to attach the pieces of wood to the trusses in the ceiling. As you can see, I use 4 tie downs hanging from the ceiling then 2 more as slings front to back on the right and left hand side. Pull down on the ceiling tie downs to lift. You only need to lift it 2, maybe 3 inches to get it off. Not as far as you might think. Then to park, I just pull the jeep straight in with the hood under the hard top.

To hang the doors I am just using ladder hangers from Lowes. The mirrors are off the doors because I use re-location brackets to put them back on the jeep. Added benefit of the doors being easier to hang.

I can get the top on or off in 17 minutes with no help. I figure with the doors I can go naked or reverse it all in 30 minutes.

I need a soft top. I took my hard top off and now it's supposed to snow! That thing was not easy to haul up to my 2nd floor apartment.

May be going to home depot for a tarp.

Bundle up and take it lol. it'll warm up again within a day or two. Poncho and some bungee cords is decent for temporary shelter.

For that reason an apartment would stink. Definitely a case for a soft top. It is nice having a home for my Jeep.

So, where do you put your top in the apartment? Does it become the summertime coffee table?
