Hackett Gulch Sunday 12/16/12

Don't know who all wants to join the fun. Post up if you do.

Springs people 10:00 Starbucks in Woodland Park.

If anyone one from Denver wants to join in 11:00 Mall of Deckers

If no one comes from the north we'll be coming in from the south. Otherwise from the north (Deckers/Westcreek).

Brian, you prefer to do Metberry? We could start there and wait for Igrok to catch up.

Igrok, is it Sean? What time do you think you'll be coming up?

Once things start plugging up with snow in the Denver/Breckenridge area we do a lot more trails down in the springs area. You should have lots of opportunities to do the Gulches.

I should have posted earlier but my week got kinda screwy...

Having trouble again with that damn u-Joint. I think I'm needing to just go though everything and see where the issue is coming from. these things are only lasting a couple of trails. there is bigger issues and I am just going to have to get serious and dig deep into the whole drive train make sure everything is lined up right and get a real fix on this....I'm getting tired of just fixing it "good enough for the next run"
gotta get a real fix even if it means doing all my upgrades
have fun.....wish I could go

Well, without the sye kit you're stressing that upper u joint to the max. Do you have your skid plate dropped? I just don't remember.

Ya I agree that the SYE is the fix. Before I did mine I could hear the shaft knocking on steep climbs. I never had to replace any u joints but I'm only on 2" of lift.

It's a pricy upgrade but you will love having your belly up. I'm guessing you'll have to wait until you swap your 8.8?

I know explorers run cv shafts and you can get them in a junk yard and just have it cut down.

Could probably do the same with a front TJ shaft but I don't know if it would compress far enough for the rear.

Well Hackett was a blast today. There was about three inches of snow on the trail and not too many drifts so it just added to the fun. Finally ran into Andrew, he was on his way in when we were on our way out. He was definitely having fun with the snow.

The barricades are completely gone, no sign they were ever there. I didn't even realize we were past where they used to be till we got down to the ledge and went 'wait a minute' Only casualty was my license plate which I lost helping a baby blazer who hi centered on the aforementioned ledge. Coming back up was a total blast with the combination of snow and loose gravel, slewing all over the place. A good time definitely had by all

Yeah you would have loved it, especially the chase back out on 360. We were doing between 35 and 40... But it was no place to get caught with a broken driveshaft.

Let me know when you come down. If Ed's up for some pen and paper I'd be willing to offer the help of another set of hands. And maybe some food.
