Hello from california

So I know it's a bit early but...

My name is Rhonda
I am planning a vacation to Grand Junction to visit my son. I want to go out to Moab. Nothing crazy but I wanna go!! I will be out there October 23 thru October 30. I would like go see if I can get a local or two who may have been out there to go with.

I am driving my 98 tj round trip from so cal. I have a 2" lift with 33's, no lockers, so I don't want to go out and mess up anything. I have been out quite a bit but still consider my self a newbie. Although I am told I do really well.

Hope to meet some fellow jeepers who can show me around a bit.

Hi there. Those dates will not work for us, but I hope you find someone to show you around. We've never been to Moab, but it's on our short list of trips to do!!

Thanks and mee too. I wish I could just pack up my California forum friends and bring them with me. Lol but of course this is an opportunity to make new friends to. I have seen pictures of Moab and some of them are breath taking! Looking for something intermediate not too hard. Lol. Hope you all make it out there too at some point!

Back before my Jeep days, I went to Arches NP returning from Vegas one summer. It was really something to see! Take lots of pics and share them with us.

Absolutely. My son is in grand junction so we are also gonna go to The Monument. My daughter in law says its beautiful. I love pretty places. Gonna have to find a second battery pack for the camera I think. Lol. I am stopping in Hurricane for the night and driving thru Zion also. Gonna be a beautiful vacation I believe.

The Arches NP? Where is that?

I would suggest Dome Plateau Trial and Whit Rim Trail for you. White Rim will drop you down into Canyonlands National Park. Absolutely Breathtaking. It's a long trip and hot so bring plenty of water but worth every minute.
I wish I could get out there but I have already made my Moab trip this year.

Moab is a funny place. Could be hot or could be snowing in late October. Plenty of info when you get there.

Arches national park is just north of Moab. Are you picking up your son first then going to Moab? If so there is a wicked scenic route through Gateway, CO onto UT 128 which puts in between arches and moab. I highly recommend purchasing Charles A. Wells book. "Guide to Moab, UT Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails".

Driving to grand junction taking the scenic route thru Zion then we are going to go to Moab from there. I haven't heard of the arches but I think that is now on my list of things while I am out there. May have to extend my trip a day or so lol. Will also check out amazon for that book so I can look it over. Thank you guys so much for the info!!

Howdy! Hope you enjoy your trip! If you can make it to Ouray on your way to Grand Junction you will not be disappointed.

Like Colo-TJ said, White Rim is breathtaking but the rangers suggest its a 2 day trail and to be prepared for an overnight camp (permit required) unless you start early. We almost finished it in one day when we went for Easter Jeep Safari.

Happy Trails

So how is the difficulty? My oldest some have an f150 4wd no lift. Bit if I am gonna camp we will have to take an extra vehicle he has basic street tires as it is really my daughter in laws truck. His buddy has a Cherokee we are hoping to hi jack if its in good running condition by then. I would love a camping trip while I am out there. Means a bit more shopping though lol. Bass pro shops here I come lol.

Rhonda,
It is a moderate trail but much more comfortable disconnected and aired down. There are a few rough spots, but Colo-TJ was the driver on that one, with a better memory for the road. I was too busy ooohing and ahhing.

It is a beautiful trail.

Lol I think it is. I just barely got the approval on my vacation dates and I already can't wait! My jeep club may plan a future trip to the gran canyon and Moab in the spring. That sounds exciting but I can't wait that long! October seems so far right now.

Awesome photos! So pretty!! Oh this is just making it worse. The next 61 days are gonna be torture! But we have decided do camp out there. My son also has a Toyota pickup lifted on 33s so he needs do do a few things to it and the Cherokee guy will be going also I think so this should be so much fun! Need a couple camping items now!
