Help a Georgia guy out

I'm taking a trip to CO to visit some family. I'm thinking I'll probably go around the September time frame. Instead of flying I've decided to take the Jeep and experience a couple days of that amazing wheeling you guys have out there. So, what places would you guys recommend to get a taste of what Colorado has to offer? Do I need to go to Ouray and do trails like Engineer's Pass or is there equally cool stuff to see closer to where my family lives? They're in Erie which is just a tad east of Boulder. Any local clubs in that area that wanna show an east coast guy around in their backyard? If there was a place that involved an overnight camp that'd be my dream scenario. My rig is more geared toward exploration than crawling. 2 door JK, 1 1/2" lift, 33's, and open diffs. I do have a full compliment of skids and a warn on the front to keep me out of trouble.

i live a couple miles south of erie. i can safely say there isn't much in this area. there are a few mild trails 30 minutes west of erie up in the mountains but nothing special. the better trails all seem to be i70 and south west so maybe a little over an hour from there to get some good trails. but the best trails are gonna be several hours away at best.

traildamage.com has just about every trail here mapped out with descriptions and ratings, check that out...

I think ouray is the most beautiful place in colorado, but Buenavista has some real pretty trails as well. If it were me and you didn't want to go all the way to ouray Buenavista has a lot to offer. I think that is also where the all 4 fun run event is being held this year as well.

Lots of trails within an hour or 2 from Erie. When you get closer PM me and I'll be glad to show you around a little on the weekends. I can most certainly help get you pointed in the right direction during the week.

September is a great time to come because the aspen trees will be changing and the colors are outstanding that time of year.

See ya then.

Hi folks, I stumbled across a site a while back that includes trails in CO. You folks would be in more of a position to say how accurate the descriptions are. Just putting it out there for some out of state folks like myself that are looking for possible destinations.

Yeah it's a good resource. Just have be sure to check what date the last report was as trails change some over time. Also need to keep in mind that the rating system on there is a little sporadic. Sometimes what is said to be a 4-5 is a 3 at best or visa versa. But that being said it's great to get a general idea of any given trail. .

I also agree to the Buena Vista area. Beings that I live here. There are trails that can go from mild to HOLY SHIT:censored:. All within 10 minutes to an hour from here. Let us know and we can direct you in a direction you would want to go.
