Ice Racing

I'm sure those of you who drive I-70 have seen those goons out on the Georgetown Lake on the weekends during the winter, no not the guys sitting there freezing their asses off while they stare down a hole, the guys in Jeeps, Subaru's and a pretty much anything with 4WD or AWD. I went out a couple weeks ago and it was AWESOME. $25 and the earlier you get there the more practice races you get before the elimination rounds start.

There's pretty much every type of vehicle possible out there, Mitsu's, tons of Subies, only a few JK's, a guy from Dumont with a built 50's Wily's and even a Texan in a super jacked up Suburban which was pretty impressive to watch navigate the course.

I think there should be some more Jeep representation so I'm going back again on Sunday if anyone is interested. I'll be there by 7 so I can run laps until the drivers meeting at 9:30 followed by the elimination rounds.

Do you have to get your own permit from Georgetown or is that part of the entry fee?

It's all taken care of by the group running it. You just show up they inspect tires and make sure ur battery is tied down and give u a permit for the season and you pay 25$.

Sounds like a sweet deal. Inspecting tires for what? Are studs required or prohibited or..?

Studded tires race on Saturday. If you have snow specific tires like Blizzaks they put you in the "street competition" category.

Yeah that's the studded class and mostly non street legal buggies. I guess people take their ice racing pretty seriously.

the racing was fine for bare rubber on sunday. your on ice, lol, snow doesn't affect anything that much..well, it actually gives more grip, but I give away a tip hehe Anyway, last weekend is this coming weekend, March 1,2,3. check out the ourgangiceracing.com website for the schedule. Friday is fun day, saturday is studs/cheaters and sunday is bare rubber.

if you come up for fun day, they close the track after 200 entries...hope to see some of you up there!

here's a video of Bill Snyder in one of the bolts vehicles...practice run first then the race. Video doesn't do it justice, but it'll give you an idea (this was his first time in this vehicle) lol
