Last Minute Run - Slaughterhouse Gulch - Today 4/18/13

With all the snow the past two days I was thinking Slaughterhouse could be a lot of fun. Anyone up for hitting it today? I've got a winch and it would probably be a good idea that anyone going have one too although not a requirement. Anyone interested in hitting the trail today?

C'mon people days like this don't come along too often, it's a beautiful sunny day and I'm sure there's enough snow at Slaughterhouse to make it a lot of fun! Even if we can't get started until 1 or 2, according to weather.com sunset isn't until 7:43PM today so there's plenty of time to get out there an hit the trail.

If we didn't own Jeeps...we could afford to take a day off?! But then why work? Oh yeah, of course to buy a Jeep...but then... Hmmm seems to be a pattern here!

Only went as far as the cattle guards at the top of the hills on each way in. Went alone so I didn't want to end up on the backside of those hills and not be able to get out. Even with a winch I like to play it safe when when wheeling solo. Had a great time but would have been a lot more fun with another jeep or two so we could have tried to do the entire loop. Seemed very doable but wasn't going to attempt it alone.

I'm west of Denver in the foothills. There was just enough snow (18"-24") to make it fun without being too dangerous. Nice thing about Slaughterhouse is there aren't any shelf roads so if you happen to slide off the trail you're not gonna die

Only real risk is heading down the backside and not being able to get back out.

So I was out in the middle of nowhere on Slaughterhouse most of the day and didn't see so much as a squirrel but I get home to find my driveway blocked by elk. Go figure. A herd of at least 100 came through before the sunset. Heard them vocalizing all night long but they're gone this morning.
