Well shit... Ok. Getting the pitman arm off isn't that big of a deal. If we can get the nut off (think it is 1 1/4 but not sure) we can beat the broken shank out, don't have to worry about damaging the threads, damn thing is broken anyway. Will require a new steering box. 13mm holdin the steering shaft to the box, 4 17mm or 19 mm bolts holding the box to frame and the 2 hydraulic lines. So, some big wrenches/sockets for the sectorshaft nut, wrenches for the hydraulic lines and sockets for the rest. Some vise grips and a big hammer. I can't get into the shop to grab any tools, but I have some basic shit in the jeep. Should of kept my broken box as a spare, would o been able to limp it down then. Need to get a box and fluid. I can fit a few guys and tools/parts and get to the rig. I will check back to see the plan.

He is in a tough spot right now. I know exactly where he is. John and I are down to help. We also know Saran Wrap very well. We can meet in the clearing at anytime that works. Also, jäger I can get you if need be.

I got a crew, a trailer, and some motivation. Let me know now, or forever hold your peace.

2x4 on the outside of the wheel well with plenty of rope, little duct tape. MacGyver.

I have all the wrenches and pullers we need, I'm going to see if I can get my rollaround in the back of the jeep. Thing is we have to get the nut off the stump of the pitman shaft unless a TJ pitman arm has the same splines. I don't know, do you Danny?

I do not believe that they are Ed. I think we can shove the pitman arm into a hitch receiver to get it steady to get the nut off, then just beat the shaft out with a hammer. the box replacement is really easy on a jk (i know.. just did one)

If my stock JK Rubi can get up there, I'm in to help. Let me know when to meet up. Also, I have some tools, hi lift, etc. Post up a list of what we will need Ed and I'll speak up for what I can bring.

this will not be the worst thing most of us have done. I think John is going to log on and check this thread as well. We can all come up with something

Keep your peace to yourself but bring the trailer Thank you.

If I tie off the steering so it moves just a little I can drag him down. Been doing that since I was a kid helping my Dad. We get him down to flatland be much easier to work on it.

Depending, stock jeeps can make it to the clearing but built, locked rigs with good drivers will be needed to get to where he is currently stuck. Sounds like we just need to secure the parts at this point

Yeah, didn't think of a receiver, thanks Dan. Yeah this really is small potatoes. You do not want to know some of the stuff I have done at twenty five below zero in a snowbank...

As for tools, I'll empty my rollaround into boxes, I know I have everything we will need.

Sounds like this is more than my jeep can handle. So as of now I'm gonna switch to 'on call'. Seriously, Ed has my number if you guys find yourselves needing anything I will do what I can. I'll still keep my eye on the thread.

Also I'm sure Ed and Dan don't want to have to answer my questions.

Ok so here is the plan. Need a point man on parts, Ed, john and I will throw anytools we think we need in our rigs. meet in the clearing of eaglerock/saran wrap at 0900. biggest issue is going to be getting a steering box.

I'm not gonna go through this pain to get a trailer if you want to fix it up there.

Being the pansy I am, I will be stopping at starbucks near the homedepot. I will get a box of coffee to keep us all warm and caffeinated if someone wants to grab some donuts

It almost has to get fixed to get it to a main road. We went thru and broken sector shaft with Joey on jenny creek. Very difficult to move the jeep with zero steering control and he is a good half mile from any access to a road.

I've called around like a maniac and can't find a steering box anywhere in short notice so I don't think fixing it on the trail will be an option. massaging it down the trail will most likely be our plan. If we get a trailer great. if not, I can cross that bridge when we get there. 0900 at the clearing sounds good. I'd say good assortment of tools, straps, and d rings will be key.

Here's the deal, I have to drop my horse trailer, start a cold diesel engine, drive down the road to borrow a trailer, come home and dig through snow to fing my chains and binders..... and it's freakin cold and dark out. So I'm not gonna do all this at midnight, or if someone shyts a steering box.

I don't know Dan, what do you think? To me it comes down to finding a box. I can get online to CarQuest and see what's available.

BTW, Danny, you just inferred that I can't get up SaranWrap You are going to eat dirt for that... But I am going to disconnect this time

I am concerned with a few things.1. getting the rig down to the spot to get it on a trailer 2. getting a trailer up old stage road with snow and Ice is a adventure all its own. I checked napa, orilleys and advanced auto online and they all seem to not have one in the store
