1987 yj, tpi350, 700r4, 4.3:1 Atlas II, d60 front, d70 rear, detroits f&r, Tom woods shafts, King Coilovers all the way around, full cage, hurst shift, 4 linked front and rear with a stretch, 17" walker evans beadlocks, 3 bald tires and 1 new (40"), and a smashed windshield for good measure. This thing is a BEAST! I can't wait to take it on some trails!!

If any of you hear of any Maxxis Creepy Crawlers in 40x13.50x17 or Mtr's, let me know.... I need to order up a set. I know a ton of people are moving away from them in favor of 42's or the sticky compound tires (which I don't want).
I watch pirate and colorado4x4 closely. I'm sure something will pop soon.....
I'm a bit less worried now that I realized the rear tire damage is due to rubbing on sheet metal at full bump rather than cracking like I thought originally..... That said these tires are beat.... I think I am going with the creepy crawlers...
I LOVE this thing!!!! All I can say is WOW! I took it up to Wheeler Lake day #1, Radical Hill #2, and Holy Cross today. I took the hardest lines I could pick out Including a crazy climb that was next to the trail (most likely not a rated obstacle, but was super fun and one of the most intimidating lines I saw all day.)
the base of Cleveland Rock was REALLY wet/muddy... I tried a variety of different lines but didn't prevail... Bald, dry rotted tires were not my friend or helpful in any way.
After having wheeled it a bit, I have decided to pick up the non-comp version of the Creepy Crawler. The MT/R Kevlar was runner up, but I've wanted the CC's for a long time and think they sound like a great idea and considering the tread depth, I believe they will last a long time.
Hydro assist: Need this asap. The gearbox on my steering sounds like an extremely large and angry insect (whines almost non-stop), the heim joints on the steering linkage are worn a bit and squeak. I will try lubricating them a bit or just swap them out at some point.
Lack of sway bars front and rear: non-issue.... with the coilovers there is less body roll than in my old tj. I had wanted to drop the ride height a bit to lower the center of gravity. Now that I've driven it, I don't think I need to. I was really concerned I wouldn't like the detroit lockers f&r.... so far I have been very impressed. I loved the ARB's I had and in winter I'm sure the detroits will be a handful, but the simplicity of not having to consider when to lock and just letting it work is very enjoyable (as is the auto....)
Speedometer stopped working on the way to the trail. I noticed I am leaking ATF now that I'm back from the trail. I hope that they are related and not a big issue.
The brake booster hisses when you let off the brakes. I pulled the vacuum line and pinched it off, the hissing stops. Does anyone have an idea of how to fix this? I'd love to not have to replace the booster itself. Expensive, and I'm not sure what booster it even is....If I do have to replace it, can you think of another option other than stock that would offer more power?
Driver's side brake light doesn't work.... all other functions of this LED unit work fine (turn on when headlights are on, blinker functions, etc.... just intermittently works or doesn't when braking)
Rear Drum Brakes: will be swapped for disks this winter......
Axle seals probably could use replacing as the front passenger seems to have been seeping for some time..
Muffler may be on the want list... the V8 sounded amazing at first but after 5 hours can begin to give you a headache

I'd still like to do a round headlight conversion on this but can't really justify the cost as of now. However I'm going to get some square steel rod and create tube fenders that match the lines of the existing cut flares and have a friend of mine lay the beads.
Put it up on the lift and grease all the joints, and put some general maintenance into it so I can establish the relationship with this jeep that I anticipate lasting a LONG time.... I could see stretching the rear back another 8" or so and pushing the front forward about 4", but that will be a project that may never be done.... Currently it's sitting at 100..
I'd love to paint it... I'm thinking white with matte olive drab armor/accents. The yellow isn't a look that I love.
So to recap.... All I need is a windshield, Tires, and steering..... Also a powerful Onboard Air.... Co2 or York will be the direction I am going.
Cool, thanks! I've got the 7d and it's way too much camera for me at the moment. I really need to set aside some time to take a class or read a book or two on the camera and photography in general and get this thing off the auto setting. Did you have any formal photography training/education or just pick it up through trial and error?
BTW, regarding onboard air, you can't go wrong with a PowerTank. It's one of the best pieces of gear I have and I'd highly recommend it.

Check with Mike's Camera...they offer a beginner and intermediate DSLR class that I took back to back when I got my 60D, and they usually have a Groupon to get both classes for the price of one.
I haven't had mine in auto since the class started.....
Chuck, mostly self taught..... I did a few workshops over the years though that were great.
John, no ac.... I'm not sure there is even a heater! I've got a lead on a York setup, otherwise I'll piece together the York which although more work will definitely be more cost effective in the long run.
I'd actually love to do a wheeling and photo day.... Get a group together ad run something more scenic like wheeler, bring some cameras and tripods + neutral density filter and go get som long exposures and jeep shots.... Take the time to work on composition and shooting rather than just Jeeping itself.... I'm not an instructor, but I'd be more than happy to walk through the basics of getting out of "p"/auto.....
