I'd like to drive up from Taos to do this. Would like to camp, now that I'm set up with gear. Ouray is so beautiful. Will check out Blue Lakes. Backpacked for a week in Grand Gulch in southern UT in October.

Just found this thread after messaging a couple Jeepers that got me on some good trails on my trip to CO last fall. I will be back in CO during this time frame and Chad told me about the trip, sounds great! Can't wait to get back out there. I have camping and hiking supplies so would be up for that too. Tim..from IL..red 2dr JK

I think if I do make It back to ouray again, I think I might make it more into a hiking trip. Like yes I'll do black bear, Poughkeepsie, mineral creek and maybe one or two others.
But I want to hike sneffles and maybe a few other trails

I hiked mt sneffels/blue lakes last summer. It was one of the most amazing and beautiful backpacking trips I have ever been on (and I go almost every weekend through the summer).

I plan to join the group for the driving portion this summer.... however I am definitely be backpacking that route again the same trip. We should see who all would be interested in joining. 2 nights is ideal for the blue lakes... and 2 days jeeping is my thoughts for the trip.

I will be camping the whole time. I don't see the appeal in a motel/hotel.... camp fire on jeep nights, and outdoors is heaven.... unfortunately in the basin by the blue lakes, campfires are prohibited.

I REALLY hope not! Last year was really a buzz kill for camping/backpacking!

Info on the hike ~4 miles each way. I won't lie, the hike is STEEP for a good portion of it..... it is taxing but not horribly difficult. The trail is well used and in very good condition. Aside from elevation gain, it isn't a technical trail. If you aren't in a rush, it is very doable for almost anyone in average physical condition. There is also water along much of the trail and you can filter water from the lake at the top. This considerably reduces pack weight vs many hikes in areas of southern Utah.

It is a VERY scenic hike. The entire trail is breathtaking.

Agreed. Last year I camped in ouray it was rainy the hole time we had a little fire one night mainly just to burn trash. Between all the trails there wasn't much time to sit around a fire but that's ok. I hiked Torrey's peak last year very nice hike. Doing an overnight pikes peak in a about 3 weeks with a few friends might freeze my arse off. But scenery is my best friend. I love taking pictures.

Clay. That's only this coming week. I'd prefer to do something not near the springs.
