I just made reservations for my family to do the Forest Service guided tour of the Picket Wire Canyonlands 9/6/14.

Anyone who wants to come along is welcome but must make reservations soon. There are currently 35 slots open on this date. Each tour date is limited to 45 people.

Reservation pricing:
0-5 years old - $0
6-12 years old - $7.50
13 + - $15.00
Reservation fee - $12.00

Highlights of the tour include over 1300 dinosaur footprints, petroglyphs, a rock arch, an old Spanish mission and a historic ranch house.

This trail is south of La Junta so it will be a very long day trip if leaving Saturday morning from Denver. We may be staying at a camp site in the area Friday and Saturday night but it is too early to know for sure.

I can't edit the original post. This trail is actually south east of La Junta, not Lamar.

I first heard about this trail 20+ years ago in a news story. I just found it and am really looking forward to this trip.
