So a friend called me and asked if I could use the jeep to help "un-stuck" his car. He apparently had left it where it was and had since gotten back to his house. It was about 7 so I knew we were losing light and he said that it was about 45 mins away and wasn't gonna be a big deal. It was "just up mt. hermon road".
So the adventure begins. By "just up mt. hermon road" he really was past where hermon meets rampart range and then up 322.
So, needless to say I'm pretty pissed at the moment because I get there and find that this fool brought a mid-90s Subaru up there. He's talking as if he does it all the time and it's no big deal. So insanely dumb. I know you guys poke fun at me because I tend to error on the cautious side but I'll be damned if this wasn't the craziest thing I've ever done. Solo jeep, no cell reception, middle of the night, ugh.
The plus side is, I now have a bond with my jeep. At points I was seriously nervous but it worked threw everything like a champ.
The Subaru thing up here in Woodland Park is actually quite common. High schoolers get Subarus and run all over the Rampart with them. So maybe he's from that genre. I used to take our old Forester a lot of weird places, and definitely all over the Rampart. With very few exceptions you can run almost any trail up there with a Subaru, although you might get some funny looks from "built" rigs when you're doing the same thing they are...
Now, I would never even consider it with my wife's new one. That kind of slow, painful death would simply not be worth it.
I haven't been up 322 for quite a while so my memory of it is pretty sketchy. Lately, if I am playing up there I do the loops on 323,4 and 5. 324 is where I was "temporarily detained" a couple weeks ago...
Maybe I'll run up there this afternoon and check out the scene of carnage :-)
