Did you trailer your rig up with a Dodge? If so, I saw you on the interstate, gas station and the trail!

Leave it to the Colo Springs boys to mess up a day of wheeling!!!
Texted John. Sounds like it was a long day getting his rig back to the Springs. So glad that he found the problem when he did. Could have been a VERY ugly day.

Turned out to be a pretty good day for us that got to run the trail; John (Sinister6) had a mishap on the highway and sheared a couple of wheel studs on his rear axle... he ended up having to trailer his rig home before we even got to the trail head. I'm sure he has a better story with more details.

Those of us that got to run the trail had a pretty good day. No breaks or major issues, I ended up wedging my rear diff and driveshaft on a rock right before the rock garden, and had to get winched off, but other than that everyone did pretty well through the whole thing. It started pouring rain/hail right at the rock garden, too... that made for a bit of a bumper car situation trying to navigate the garden without much route finding.

It was great meeting you all, and a good day out on the trails despite all the hiccups. Here's a link to all my pics!

My driveshaft wedged... guess that means I need more lift and some bigger tires...

Well, as said, I had some lug nut issues. During the drive to the trail I felt vibration especially when shifting, I thought I was having issues with the transmission. Anyway, pulling into the Conoco in Downieville, I heard a loud noise again thought driveshaft or ???. As I pull up to have Todd listen for the noise, I see two lugs sitting inside the rockring of my beadlock. The rest of the lugs were loose in the flange basically the wheel was being held on by 3 very loose lugs! We just got off I70 doing 65mph+! After some discussion, Dennis (dwindeck) gave up his day of wheeling to drive me back to the Springs to get a truck and trailer. I rented a trailer from uhaul. With a lot of LUCK I got the rig loaded with the lugs popping as I drove it on to the trailer of course the uHaul didn't have straps that fit my almost stock tires. So $83 later, in tie down straps from the truck stop, several chains I brought, Todd (911doc) and I got the rig tied down. Got home without incident despite the heavy rains. Unloaded the Jeep without incident and pulled the axles. Drivers side all the lugs were loose from the flange, some wheel damage and flange damage. After seeing that, I pulled the other axle and sure enough a loose lug. I've sent Ten Factory an email to see if they've ever seen anything like this. Things could have ended a lot worse with the wheel coming off on I70 coming down a 6% grade...shutter to even think of it. I have to thank everyone that waited at Conoco until we had plan to get the Jeep taken care of. Thank you again Dennis for giving up your day of wheeling to drive me back to the Springs and Todd for sticking around until I got back and following me home. I really appreciated it!! I'll post some pics from phone computer is acting up...

JeePeters - That was us that brought the jeep in on the trailer behind the dodge.

Sinister6-I had a similar issue with wheel studs on a 1984 k5 blazer about 15 years ago. After much discussion and trial and error it was decided that it was a combo of the rear locker, larger than stock tires (35") high horsepower motor and small (1/2) closed acorn style lug nuts. After switching out the lugs and studs for extra long 9/16" drag racing style studs and open lug nuts it never happened again. It's definitely not a place you want to have a failure like you said. Hope you figure it out and get it fixed.

She is already talking about going again. I am a pretty lucky dad! Oh, and I put in my Cobra 75 order this morning. That way I can at least hear the jokes next time

Well, talked to Brian at Northridge regarding the axles. He asked for pics and said he'd send them to Ten Factory and see what they had to say. Couple hours later he calls to tell me the Rep said they had never seen anything like it before. They sent out a brand new set of axles this morning should be here mid-week! Absolutely great customer service from both Northridge and Ten Factory!
Working on getting the wheel taken care of tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be up & running for the weekend.

Thanks Tim! Brian was great in getting this taken care of quickly and painlessly! Figure the axles should be here this week. I also had to order another beadlock from TrailReady, that should take 2 weeks or less.

Hey I didn't want to start a new thread so I decided to use this one about Spring Creek to ask my question. On the trail, (I think the bypass trail from the first hill obstacle) there is an abandoned mine shaft running horizontal into the mountain and it isn't closed off at all. What mine is this and why hasn't it been closed?
