Sunday the 15th St Elmo / Tincup area

Daughter and I are headed there to feed the chipmunks and head over Tincup....may do some other stuff while there. Any families or non families wanna go? Getting too close to the snow flying and she is upset we have missed the last few. We go to St Elmo a lot by ourselves and haven't gone over Tincup....never like to wheel alone. Our plan is always to eat pizza at Amicas in Salida after....

Anyone? Would love to have some company

If you do this I would start on the St. Elmo. You have to go around mirror lake on the other side. If the lake is high you can't get around it?

Just did tincup and Hancock pass on Sunday. Mirror lake is low right now so not a very big water crossing right now. We went up Hancock to the alpine tunnel area and checked out the old buildings and rails, then took Cumberland pass over to tincup (took a wrong turn and went up the old tincup spur which I do not recommend as my skid plate has a new shape) then back to st Elmo. It was a lot of fun plus we knocked out three mountain passes in one day

Good to know. I was up there one time and the lake was 2 feet over the trail.

I stayed in a cabin along the way up to St Elmo for a week last August. I did not have the jeep so I was in the minivan. My mother-inlaw went over Tincup in a scout years ago and wanted her tin cup so we went over cotton wood pass to Tincup, ate in the Café got her cup and took the long way back through Gunnison. Cottonwood pass in a minivan is no joke. It took me 7 hours to get her from Buena Vista to Tin Cup and back. Had full load of people in the Van and my wife was Hysterical in the back while we were coming down cottonwood pass. I will go over Tincup in the Jeep next summer.

Me and Corrie would be in for this as long as I can find a decent used adjustable track bar for her rig and get it in. don't see any problem with it but "hey>>>>>you never know Jack........"

We are out. We want the rangers to assess damage, let the water levels decrease, and not cause more damage to the trails in their saturated state.

That is the same reason I'm out. Will wait to see what happens next weekend.

I just read that tin cup is only open to the top from St Elmo. Top to mirror lake is closed do to trail damage.
