T-33A Plane Crash - Got the best of me

Today I was out with my family, we were by ourselves. Cruised Bunce School Road and then hit T-33A trail. Got about a mile up t-33a trail (1 mile from where you first turn onto 202) to what I believe is "the ledge" (the one in you tube videos and internet photos). Looked like a pretty big step, much larger than anything to that point. Anyway, at that point we turned around because I wasn't comfortable trying it when we were by ourselves.

Prior to going I watched you tube videos of folks moseying right up what I think is the same ledge and read some threads on other forums; "oh yeah, easy peasy..." I'm not going to lie, it looked scary as s**t.

Shows my inexperience I guess. Maybe next time when we're with some other folks we'll get it. I did bring home some nice new pin striping. Some thick branches sticking out on that trail.

I've been on t-33 a couple times now by my lonesome self. Not my favorite trail. With the ledge area you mentioned it would be definitely easier with a spotter.

You got a nice rig and I think you did a wise choice since you were alone.

If you have issues with heights shelf roads are a bitch, plain and simple. It has nothing to do with your ability to wheel or experience. I have done hundreds of them and I hate it every single time. It's psychological, I know, but tell that to my guts when I want to spew them over a three hundred foot drop ;) You have the guts to admit it, kudos to you :) You are not alone and to be perfectly blunt it will probably never get any better. You deal with it as best you can and after that, screw it, it is simply not worth it. I have never done the trip to Ouray for that reason. Yeah, it has some of the most incredible scenery in all of Colorado, but is it worth running those shelf roads? Not to me it isn't. I've gotten myself smacked up on shelfs with two feet of snow and I didn't know if I'd make it out alive because I was running solo. Stupid? yes, reality? yes. Avoid it if you can, deal with it if you can't. But don't let it stop you, it is the most incredible rush you can have short of very questionable occupations or pastimes ;)

^this!!! You took the words right outta my mouth. I absolutely hate shelf roads! I want to go to Ouray soo bad but the thought of hitting some of those trails makes my butt pucker up a bit while vomiting in mouth at the same time.

What really gets me are situations that feel tippy. There is that point where you get one wheel on something and the Jeep is leaning more and more as you pull forward until the other wheel starts to climb up whatever it is...

For some reason I'm scared to death of rolling. Not a completely irrational or unhealthy fear I suppose. I doubt that I've ever actually been in real danger of doing so though. Yet, I can describe many points where I was freaking out on the inside 'cause I was sure I was about to.

Unlike a fear of heights I hope this is more a matter of experience and learning what is OK and what's pushing it.
