The Please keep Ed thread....

Felt this was needed.

Dear Mr. Man-in-charge,

We the people of the Colorado Sub-division forum would like to request that Ed (Oldguy) be allowed to stay on the forum in his full and current capacity. Ed is a large reason why some of us are on this forum and are able to enjoy our jeeps as much as we do.

According to the very first line in the Community Rules:
"The goal of Wrangler Forum is to provide a friendly and informative place for people to share info, meet fellow Jeep owners, help each other with Jeep related projects and repair issues, post adventure reports, learn about issues that affect the 4 x 4 community and hang out in general."
I think it's safe to say that Ed exemplifies that. He has led many trail runs ranging from the experienced to the novice. Ed has on multiple occasions opened up his home and garage to help myself and many other jeepers from this forum do things from install lifts, mounts, shocks, and do all kinda of ER style repairs(Brendend). The only thing he really asks is that you actually learn what you're doing.

The other point I'd like to make is that everyone that is here for the most part are adults. They act as such, react as such, and view things threw an adult lens. For example if I use the emote , which is provided by the forum, people don't start acting like their 10. We're adults, Ed can be more animated sure but it's because he's got passion for vehicles. He has a large knowledge base on jeeps, engines, suspension, etc.. And, as he once joked about me, he thinks he's gonna start bringing a pad and pen to trail runs to draw things out for me to explain them. I didn't get upset at the joke because I realized he's serious. He'd do it if it meant that I'd understand how a 3-link rear suspension works. Which, due to him, I do understand now.

One of the main expressed goals of this forums is to build a community. The Colorado Sub-division has got one. A solid, fun, upbeat community that Ed is a large part of. Please keep it this way.

Thanks!
-Brian

PS. And no, this isn't a troll. Ed is my friend and I'd prefer him to remain on this forum.

Ed wasnt banned, obviously, he is online right now, and how is Ospreyguy doing with his DW? Is the wine helping? Thats all I was doing, trying to help, the thread, and my replies werent about Brenden, or Ed, they were about the OP, and about the fact that a drop pitman and trackbar isnt necessary, Ed says Im "smug and should go away" for trying to help someone, so I did what an adult would do, I responded to his aggression without aggression of my own and promptly put him on ignore, then he demonstrated his further ability to be an adult by whining about being told to "play nice" and pouted a little about being over at Pirate instead, and is online here right now as I type, so stop whining.

Yes, I'm still here, although it is getting tenuous. O M, I am sorry about jumping on your case, but I think it is best that I refrain from discussing things with you. We seem to interact about as well as kerosene and a lit match.

I would like to know how Ospreyguy is doing with his problem, will have to wait for him to post again.

Enough said.

We do not normally discuss these sorts of things on the public forum but since you all have made it a point to speak on Ed's behalf I will post this here.

Noted and taken into consideration.

You must understand one thing though... being an outstanding member of society/on the trail does not excuse someone from name calling, telling others to leave, disrespecting others, and breaking community rules here on the forum. I can appreciate a person like who you described as that is the type of person I try to be out on the trail. I'll have to take your word on that. I'm not going to close Ed's account unless he forces me to. Maybe you all can hold him accountable and be positive reminders and look out for one another as you would on the trail.

Ed,
I will not bring it up here but you got my message so you know how I feel. So long as you act here on the forum as Brain has described you to be on the trail and in person you are more than welcome here. Know this, there are a number of notes already on your account from past issues and you are on your last warning. Hopefully you take this to heart as it sounds like you have a lot to offer the community and are someone I might like to wheel with someday.

For the most part that's all I can ask, it's what I pretty much was going for.

I would request though that some consideration be put into the fact that roughly 75%(obviously a guess but I bet I'm not to far off) of the people that use this sub-division know Ed. The level of interaction with him may very but they all know he means well. Issues tend to arise when someone from outside the Colorado group comes in and starts making a fuss as is the case here.

Wouldn't the best course of action simply be to remind people that this is a sub-division designed for the state of Colorado should likely be used for people in Colorado? It's not an elitist idea or anything of the sort. When people come to the state and want to wheel we want to take/go with them. O_M for example lives 50 miles north of Colorado yet we've never seen him on a trip even when we're in the northern part of the state. He obviously doesn't wheel with us, so why should he be able to interject into conversations and cause problems.

And yes, at this point it's safe to say I've taken up issue with O_M. I don't enjoy being called a whiner when that isn't what I'm doing. So I hope he gets just as large of a knock on his account as Ed has received. It's funny how true the statement "It takes to tango" is. I never made excuses for Ed. And I won't be making any for myself regarding O_M's actions.

I didnt edit it out at all, I would like to ask the moderators who did edit my post? If a mod took it upon themself to edit my post they should have blocked the whole post, not edited parts of it

on a further note, yes what I said to Ed was harsh, not agressive, I have sent Ed a private message and if he chooses to respond or not is up to him, if he chooses to share that message is up to him, I have said what I need to here and privately.

This section isn't exclusive and I'm not going to tell people who are not from Colorado to stay out of this section the same as I wouldn't tell someone who doesn't own a TJ to stay out of the TJ Technical section. If someone is becoming a nuisance and harassing others that is different. I will deal with things as they come. And in O_M_Jeep's defense, he did not edit his post. I did.

I removed the sentence that included calling everyone whiners. The rest was left because it was within the forum rules. Saying that someone is doing something(like whining) is different than calling names (like a whiner).
