Visiting South Fork Area. Good Place to Wheel for Newbs?

The wife and I are planning a short trip to the South Fork area first of August. We have never been to the area without snow so planning to take the jeep and would like to see some of the area. I am not looking for anything "extreme" but something that will allow is to see the beautiful scenery. Been doing a lot of "Googling" trying to get some ideas but not having a ton of luck. I thought I would see if you folks had any ideas or suggestions. Thanks and looking forward to see your great state!

Check out summitville. I actually did a lot of work at the new water treatment plant they have up there. There's a really cool ghost town up there also.

I will take a look at the area and see what I can come up with. Thanks for the heads up!

It has been CRAZY busy the past couple of months and I have had zero time to really hit the forum. I wanted to drop a quick update about our trip to South Fork late August for a couple of days. This is the first time we made it to South Fork without snow. The one thing we learned is we did not stay long enough. We did not get to see a lot due to time but we drove through a lot of the national forest area, did a little fly fishing for the first time, and spent a day driving up to the Wheeler Geologic Area.

If you are ever in the South Fork/Creed area this is a MUST SEE. The first half is pretty much a gravel road until you get to the turn off. We aired down and went the last 13 or so miles in 4WD. It is an easy drive up to the top with a few rocky sections and creek crossings but not a problem for newbs like us. Once you get to the top it is about a mile hike to the viewing areas with trails all around. We spent almost the entire day driving up, hiking around, then driving back down. Here are a few pictures from the trip, they do not even come close to showing the beauty of this place. We have a number of other areas around Creed that we want to see so that just means we will have to make it back next year. Thanks for all the ideas!
