yay need a new steering box

Well think ive found my source of loud popping. Scary to make turns in the jeep. After I almost get straight on the road it'll pop and make the jeep swerve a little. Then come to find out the durango swap wont work with 03-06 tj or ljs :-(. And the psc box is 950 dollars. J.E.E.P. Any suggestions on a replacement?

Sorry to hear that Justin. I have an idea...just use those Jeep Cajonnes and dip into your wedding fund...I'm sure Katheryn won't mind.
Seriously though I remember reading that there is only one hole on the frame that is different from 02 Jeeps that prevent you doing the Durango upgrade. I believe it was on the Jeep forum. With the wealth of knowledge on here I'm sure there are options for you. Another idea would be to call there area shops. My buddy got an upgraded remanufactured one from a local Jeep shop for $325. Hope that helps!

EDIT: Found it! http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f9/20...g-box-1230392/

I had the same issue and it turned out to be that the drag link was hitting the track bar bolt. At some point I must have hit a rock or something that pushed them into one another. It was right at the point where the stabilizer bolt is. I bent it back with a big crow bar and it wend away. Check that out.

Are you sure it's your box ? Put your front end on jack stands and have someone turn the wheel lock to lock while you watch and listen. I wouldn't blame the box just yet, lots of parts to count out first.

Hopefully chad is right.

Redneck ram! You send them your box, they rebuild it, and send you a ram, hoses, fittings and instruction on how to easily modify your pump..... Cost : 500.00 and you get ram assist out of the deal .... Give them a call..... The owner is super cool.

I have been hearing a popping as well and it was the draglink bolt hitting the trackbar mount.

Ive visually watched everything and theres nothing I can see happening when turned back and forth. Dont think that hitting a bolt would cause the jeep to veer right or left about 2 feet to the side after completing a turn while driving.

I replaced my box with a rebuilt box from FN Jeep and still have the same popping noise. If you want to throw another box on to see if you still have the noise I still have my old one. Just need to figure out a way to get it down to you.

Mine is an 03

Justin if that is the problem you should be able to see some marks on it. look real close to the sides of the mount. for me it was like once it "Popped" over it was clear so it "skipped" the top.
It took me a while before I found it. Also it didn't happen all the time. but when it did it was a little freaky.....Ask Corrie....LOL.......there were a few times that I didn't think it was gonna turn through a corner and them "POP" and it went right the F'N now..........Wild ride coming down a canyon.........

Justin just let me know if you wanna try my extra box if you don't find anything else. Maybe we could meet in Castle Rock or something. Sure there is some hole in the wall place that serves a cold beer.

Mine did the exact same thing when I first got the jeep and it was scary as hell even though I knew exactally when it was gonna happen. Then one day it just stoped completely and then just a little while after that the death wobble began. Turns out the mounting bolt for my front track bar had sheered in half and was just hardly holding together. I fixed the bolt (and replaced the whole front linkage while was there lol) and it all stopped
