Yeah, since this is my first time going to Moab, I would be up for heading down there during EJS, it may be a little bit of a tourist trap, but since they will have guides and a repair shop, it may be easier for a first time novice. The registration does not open up until sometime January, maybe we can chat about it during/after one of the Wrangler Forum meetings....
I'd love to go to Moab, but it just seems like Easter weekend is just far too much $$. I looked into it for this year and was slightly aghast that each run was $50 sign up. Even at 4 runs...well..you do the math. The camping vs motel thing, wore me out looking. I guess I really need to sit down with guys who have done it to really get my head around the best things to do. It's a "must do" at some point soon!
Depending on where you go and what you want to do I have found it best (personally) to go during the "off" times - Rubicon or Moab. Typically the services are more expensive during the events, there are way too many people, the trail/s are crowded, etc.
Rubicon is one long train of vehicles and there are a lot of rock stacks so all can make it through.
For me the off times are best because I can take a leisurely trip and stop on the trails, the food and lodging is less and there are less drunks on the trail.
I would like to go either to Moab. Rubicon or Death Valley again in the spring.

I'm planning to go the second or third week in September if anyone is game. The Easter Jam is too much of a zoo for me, personally. I want to do the trails at my leisure and not part of a long line (no disrespect to others who see the advantages of the coordinated run). I have a stock Rubicon and plan to do the easier stuff like White Rim Trail and maybe Chicken Corners, etc. Hoping to shoot a lot of photographs. If interested let me know.
