Nice cool river drive ( no pics )

If your sitting around in the evening in the heat and wishing you could get out of it....Pack up the kids and the wife and take a Jeep Drive....
We are both retired now and the wife likes to go on "drives to nowhere" just get out of the town and house.
So last night I was all relaxed and sitting around waiting for the Fights to come on when the wife says "why don't we take a drive tonight and we can stop someplace for dinner?"... Great idea Dear !
So we got in the Jeep and left Forest Grove , driving South on 47 to Carlton. At Carlton we turned RIGHT at the blinking light, Take this highway thru to the Nestucca River. This is a pretty winding road in places .... There are lots of camp grounds along the river, lots of places to stop and let the kids play in the water.
The road is paved and in pretty good shape. You will end up at the Coast at a small wide spot in the road called BEAVER on highway 101... I like to turn South ( LEFT ) from Beaver and drive down to HEBO. Turn LEFT in HEBO and stop at the "Three Rivers Cafe" for lunch or dinner. Just EAST of the Cafe is a Road to the Left for HEBO lake ( just a big pond, stocked ) but you can drive the really winding road to the top where the old Air Force Radar station used to be. It's now torn down and Cell Phone towers and radio repeaters are there in it's place... From the top of HEBO you can see the ocean and lots of mountains in all directions on a clear day..
Driving from Hebo back down to Highway 22, turn LEFT and drive thru to Grand Rounde, from there you can get back on the highway to McMinnville.
We had a peaceful drive, no traffic, nice and cool .
I think we put on about 140 miles total round trip... This is also a great winter road to go on when it's snowing, lots of Elk/Deer....very little if any traffic.
So if your looking for a cool drive in the shade of the fir trees , this is a good drive in the heat, check it out.... "BH"

Sounds like fun. We like to "Get out of Dodge" too just for a ride. We'll have to try it.

Thanks for the good write up. I love that drive down the Nestucca. There are a ton of off shoots up into the hills back there that I would love to explore.

When it's Hot here in the Valley , it's a nice drive in the shade hardly any traffic. And there is a road about 1/2 way that you can take to drive you into Wilamina . Several eateries there as well as Gas...Close to the Casino at "Ground Round"....
Sorry about the poor directions in my first post... The road you take is actually "Meadow Lake Road" out of Carlton . There is lots of country between here and the coast....
Have a good time ! "BH"
