I tried to get to Badger lake early July and couldn't make it in my little jeep. The snow was very deep still. I imagine it's all melted now?

Any PDX area Jeepers willing to get together some weekend and help a fellow Jeeper repair a broken Ring and Pinion set in a rear differential?

I think it is one of the best things we did. We are camped right behind the jeeps. OHM park we found had 1 trail for rigs. The rest are bike and ATV only

So the rear end is completely gutted

Here are the sheared teeth off the pinion :

Just need the funds for the new R&P set..and then figure out how to put them in the correct way!

Looks like not-a-fun project.... Are there pick-a-part yards anywhere near you? May be a cheap way to get the parts you need.

Not really wanting to do used parts when it comes to replacing the R&P gears. Kinda stuck deciding if I should just save for the R&P set or go ahead and do the Super35 axle kit while everything is out. Pretty big price difference, but that would save me an axle swap in the future. Decisions..decisions....

Post Decide on super d35.. or not.

I would rather pick up an 8.8 used for 250.00 which can be had with 3.73's or 4.11's... You would have to buy some brackets, brake hoses, and such to make the swap complete. But well worth it imo, or get a D44 bolt in.
Good luck on whatever YOU decide it's all good..

I have no way to prep a replacement axle for bolt-on at this time. Besides, I would have to find one geared with 4.56 as that is what I currently have. There was an 8.8 with 4.56 gears for sale in The Dalles but again the issue of welding up brackets and the other ammenities is an issue. I think at this point I just need to replace the broken pinion to get it back on the road so I have a DD again, then save up for a new axle later. Not the best plan I know, but time and money are extremely tight and carpooling is getting VERY tiring.

It's been years. I can imagine that's getting old real quick.

Sometimes we have to do what we have to do - not what we'd like to do.

Thanks for taking the time to post the pictures of the destruction.

We are going to one thread for our group instead of 4 threads. The thread is located in the Oregon Forum. WranglerForum “sticky” the thread so it will always show up at the top. The thread is titled “SW Washington & NW Oregon Group”

From now on let’s start using it. The below link will take you there.
