Rubicon Train Conquered (Pic Heavy)

So after years of waiting I finally built a rig that can handle the Rubicon. So on the 13th me and my friend Jonny headed down to California.

The jeeps:
Mine: 93 YJ 4.0L SOA +2 36 13.50 Iroks, D30/D44 open/electric locker
Jonny: 87 XJ 4.5L stroker 8in lift 35 12.50 BFG KM, D30/D44 LSD electric locker

We got to Loon lake at 1pm on the 14th and we took off from the trail head.

Just random trail pics

I would like to say we made it through the trail undamaged but we didn't. I got a nice dent on my driver rocker panel, and a few dings in the frame, also ripped the oil seal on the rear driver side axle.

Jonny had dented his passanger side rocker and but a small tear in the unibody by the stearing box.

Both rigs made it out and home, until......

Conquered the Rubicon only to be done in by I84

Guess i should have topped off the fluid in the rear end back in Reno, good thing for spares.

Overall this was a very challenging trail for both driver and jeep, and I cant wait to go back again next time ill go East to West it will be harder. Took us a total of 14 hours ish of wheeling to get through it.

Congrats on making it through. Maybe by the time you go back out I might have my Jeep ready to attempt something like this.

Rubicon Springs are so pretty. I just wish it wasn't so hard to get there haha. Go figure, the interstate killed your jeep afterward.

They should have marked I84 as a double black diamond. Should have stopped at popeyes and my bearing would have cooled off.

@jdeemer you will love its the best trail ive ever been on. Theres nothing like i want to go back sometime and do it from east to west. It should be alot harder that way. My suggestion if you can stay at Rubicon springs that play is something else i wish i would have.

Yeah, Jude, but then people would start showing up in FJ Cruisers and H2s.

Fortunately, I've been there quite a bit before when I lived in Sacramento and had a '66 CJ5. It's been too long since I've gone all the way through the trail, but I need to get back in that country. It truly is some of the most amazing land in the West. I think I'd have my ashes thrown out there some day. Hopefully not too soon though.

If you get the time to head back down there, hit me up! I'm willing to take an extended weekend. I know it's a hell of a drive from where you're at though. But worth it!
