There is a trip being planned but not for TSF. I think it is to mt. St. Helens for New Years eve, and a Long Beach trip on New Years day, and a possible New Years day run to Larch Mt. Washington. As soon as all the details get worked out I'm sure they will be posted.

Long Beach and Larch on New Years Day?!?!

I will be in Long Beach most likely on NYD anyways.

This Sunday is our SW Washington and NW Oregon (GTG) get together.

We will be discussing and planning the New Years Eve, New Year’s Night, and New Year’s Day runs. There “seems” to be enough interest in having 2 to 4 runs on the two days.

Once we decide what runs we will be doing we will get them post up.

I plan on attending the monthly GTG tomorrow, Sunday.
But my better half will have to drive the Jeep.. (Still in a cast)...
My Jeep has been feeling neglected lately.

Are you driving your new LJ to the meeting?

He has a story to tell. He kept his Black LJ. That's why his better half will be driving him.

I won't tell. He can share at the meeting.

TRAVEL RESPONSIBLY

Travel responsibly on designated roads, trails or areas.

1) Travel only in areas open to four-wheel drive vehicles.

2) For your safety, travel straight up or down hills.

3) Drive over, not around obstacles to avoid widening the trail.

4) Straddle ruts, gullies and washouts even if they are wider than your vehicle.

5) Cross streams only at designated fording points, where the road crosses the stream.

6) When possible, avoid mud. In soft terrain, go easy on the gas to avoid wheel spin, which can cause rutting.

7) Don’t turn around on narrow roads, steep terrain or unstable ground. Back up until you find a safe place to turn around.

8) Stop frequently and scout ahead on foot. To help with traction, balance your load and lower tire pressure to where you see a bulge (typically not less than 20 pounds).

9) Know where the differential or the lowest point on your vehicle is. This will help in negotiating terrain and prevent vehicle damage resulting in oil and fluid spills on the trail.

10) Maintain a reasonable distance between vehicles.

11) Comply with all signs and respect barriers.

12) Travel with a group of two or more vehicles. Driving solo can leave you vulnerable if you have an accident or breakdown. Designate meeting areas in case of separation.

13) Don’t mix driving with alcohol or drugs.

Came down with nasty cough yesterday morning, still have it.
I decided to keep my black LJ for now and see what happens..
I bought a large low mileage sedan to drive back and forth to work, instead of buying that other LJ. It makes the drive much nicer and easier to get out of with a bum hand, and the hwy mpg is about 27mpg.

Temporary Trail Closure Tillamook State Forest

FYI....

Trail Name & #: Jordan Creek Trail #84 east of Portland Mills Rd.

The Jordan Creek trail section east of its intersection with Portland Mills Rd. is temporarily closed while the timber harvest south of the creek is active as skylines are hanging across this trail. Some of the skylines in this area will exceed 5,000 feet in length and are extremely hazardous as they are dropped and raised without warning where they cross this trail. These skylines may be active on weekends as well as during the week. The trail will be reopened when the skylines are removed.

Hey guys... just an FYI, I was planning on holding the Long Beach run, but due to lack of funds I am not doing it now. BUT I will be doing the Memorial Day Long Beach run again this year, so stay tuned for that event

Thumbs up Training Day

I put on a training day yesterday for three of our members. We went over how to be a trail leader, person in charge (host), trail guide, tail gunner, spotter, and covered how to organize and run an event. Talked about how lockers are misunderstood, used to often, and used incorrectly. As we left to go run Fire Break 5 in the cool, windy, rain, I told them my only expectation is, we “will” run Fire Break 5 open, and we did as a team. We played with the lockers a little bit. Chris B, Ken, and Chris N, saw the value and suggested that we put on an all day “clinic BBQ” this spring/summer for our members and we will do that if the interest is there. There are a few more members I would like to get up to speed this winter/spring before we can. If you’re interested in learning more on how to run an event, be a better trail leader, person in charge (host), trail guide, tail gunner, and spotter, let me know and we will see if we can put together a day out.

We have several guys that work until 5:30 or 6 and stop by after. It's a great way to get to meet a large number of members at one time.

These meetings are scheduled for the second Sunday of every month just so you know.
