Our group is going to be big enough on Saturday we will need to split. I'm looking for a trail guide for group 2. I figured we can split the group by skill and those that want to run the harder trails can go do that while the rest of us play on the moderate trails.

Any takers?

This is often mentioned as the largest 4x4 swap meet in the Pacific Northwest. Too bad it's just on a single day, and Sunday to boot .

What's recommended to run with Group 2? Because this non-locker Jeep maybe running with Group 1 then!

I've made it on those trails in group 2 open, but I had my lockers if needed. I'd think you would be fine. You can bypass the double black sections. I know I'll bypass the Can Opener. I do want to try to climb waterfall though.

I think jsears was having a bit of fun. Despite being open, his JK does have the benefit of rolling mass. Additionally, his 37's give differential and belly clearance. That rig given tire size and clearance can go through a majority of trails in TSF with less effort compared to my limited slipped 33's.

Locked or not, a higher diameter tire will get you through more obstacles vs OEM equipped Jeep on OEM sized tires.

No Jeff was serious Ken :-) he wanted to know what you all thought was needed to make those trails. I told him you or Chris B could answer that for him because I couldn't LOL

He knows his rig is capable, but doesn't want to slow anyone down as he is open.

First of thank you everyone for the responses.

Like Ken mentioned I do have a very capable rig. The JKU's have some power and mass to them. Plus sitting on 37's is going to help. I have had a few guys tell me that on 37's and open diffs that I will be able to tackle stuff just as easily as guys running lockers and smaller tires. (Obviously thats not a total fact).

I fully believe that my rig and myself can make it through those trails even though I have never ran them or seen them. I know lockers would make my job a lot easier.

I think my question would have been better phrased if I asked if I would be holding you guys up running those trails with no lockers. I don't want to be the guy that we have to winch every 20 feet because I am open. Lol.

So as long as Group 2 is willing to let me tag a long I am happy as a clam. If I start to hold you guys up, just let me know. I can always break off and join the other group.

Your more then welcome to, and you will do fine. Everyone thinks they have to have locker, but not always the case. In some cases lockers hurt you more then help. Case in point, I'm making my way in the Crusher, lots of tight turn. I lock it up trying climb a large rock while trying to make the turn. After 5 min of trying to make the turn I back out and restart the turn. Unlock both ends and make the turn easy. Ive ran this trail a few times. I run almost the whole thing open. I only lock it up when going up waterfall, can opener or rock garden.

I have lockers and I do not use them. Do not stress or worried about not having lockers. Learn to drive open. Have others teach you. This run is a GREAT opportunity for those to teach the newbie’s. And it would be a great opportunity for our newer trail guides and tail gunners to run smaller groups and teach driving skills. If you do not know how to drive open, what will you do if you get into a situation where you make it in using lockers then your lockers fail? Learn to drive with finesse and open.

Newbie Run

A little home work for those that have never really played off road. Tire Pressure can make a huge difference in your abilities on the trail. Mark explains it much nicer in person, but he won't be able to make this run. So this page will give you some insight.
Tire Pressures for 4-Wheeling

Also

I have obtained another trail guide and tail gunner, so we will probably have 3 groups for the easier trails. This way we can be in groups of about 5 or so. Makes for a more intimate trip and a better learning atmosphere for those that may need a little extra advice. So we will add Hood Raiser to our list of moderate trails.

It's going to be an awesome day!!!
