Hey Doris, you could let Dave drive your Jeep and open up a slot for another Jeeper :-)

Not sure what side of town you are located in, but D&R communications in Clackamas will tune your cb for you. Tell them you where sent by the Wrangler forum :-) I know if you buy from them they do it for free, not sure what they charge other wise.

You can, but you may not get as much sign out or and it maybe static-y , but for the short distance you will be using it you should be ok.

They are on Hwy 224 across from FredMeyers ware house. https://plus.google.com/110299532134...ut?gl=us&hl=en

Good deal!

They do make the runs a bit more enjoyable :-) we tend to banter a bit and bs on our runs, as well as give information on trails and spotting directions via CB. We do get out and talk to the cb-less when need be though :-)

The Cobra 29 model I bought has a built in SWR meter so that you can tune it any time without hooking up an swr meter. If yours has the built in meter, it is easy to tune it yourself. If not, several of us have swr meters that you can borrow.

It's on page 10 of the manual:

https://www.cobra.com/downloads/manuals/29LTDCLA.PDF

The manual tells you how to get the SWR readings, but does not tell you how to tune the antenna. More info can be found here:

How to Tune a CB Radio Antenna

SWR readings under 2.0 are ideal, but under 3.0 is acceptable according to the manual. Anything over 3.0, you risk damage to the radio.

If you have the built in SWR meter no you do not need to unplug the ant. There should be instructions on how to tune it in your owners manual :-)

No unplugging necessary, just get the swr readings on channels 1, 20 and 40. Be sure to have the jeep in an open area with no obstructions within 50 - 100 feet (the farther, the better), and all doors closed.

If your readings are below 2.0, that's good. If all the readings are close together, even better. If the readings are greatly different, then the antenna may be too long or too short.
